Fabia II 3 1.6 - 105bhp?

Featured Replies

We're looking at buying a Fabia II '3' 1.6 16v for the wife. We've seen one, which is a 57 plate, advertised as a 1.6 16v with 105bhp, 0-60 in 10.1 secs, etc. However, on some of the 'car check' services, particularly the AA, the description for the car is coming up as "Fabia 3 85". Isn't 85bhp the output for the 1.4 16v? This one is definately a 1.6, as all the sites inc. DVLA confirm it as 1598cc. Does the '85' in the description have some sort of other meaning maybe and nothing to do with bhp?

Was the 1.6 ever available as anything but a 105bhp version? Is there an 85bhp version out there? And if so should we be worried by it?

Any help appreciated! We really like the car, but would rather get this mystery cleared up before we hand over the cash!

The 1.6 16 valve only came in 105bhp with either manual or auto

Does it say anything on the engine cover?

The 1.6 does come in a 105 bhp well it did, I don't think it came in 85 , shell be fine plenty of reviews available must also be loads here, they can be a little noisy though, I had this engine in the felicia great runner

What is the engine code on registration?

BXW one is 1.4 85 hp

Mine is BTS engine code and is definitely a 1.6. Had it for two and a half years, done 37,000 miles with only minor faults (covered by warranty). Keep filters clean and oil fresh and you should get around 42 mpg and excellent reliability. Comfortable for 4 adults and reasonable luggage space in boot. Wished it had cruise control which yours should have.

As for the '85' mystery, sometimes an incorrect entry on a computer somewhre along the line may have allowed '85' to be inadvertantly shown in the car's details.

Thanks all - looks like the "85" is just a random number then!

If anybody else can shed any light on the mystery "85" in the name I'd appreciate it just to satisfy my curiosity, but I'm a lot less worried about it now!

Oh, and the engine code is BTS. 105hp then? Even on the HPI check, the model name comes up as "Fabia 3 85"!

Alan i would check if this car is the real deal or cloned or something similar just to be sure, the hpi check should have checked out ?

Nope, HPI is all clear. Everything else checks out, it's just this rather puzzling model name! It's at a large main dealer (although not a Skoda dealer), so doubt very much it's dodgy in anyway.
