Park sensor and radio volume

Featured Replies

In a pre fl Octavia with Columbus is it possible to reduce audio volume when reversing to hear the rear parking sensors. Have looked thru manual and Columbus settings but not found anything, although it works for navigation commands. Am I missing something obvious??

Thanks

Adam

Probably better to wait for someone who knows, but on my FL with bolero, the PDC sound settings can be adjusted at the bottom of the sound menu (where you can change balance/fade/bass etc). I am under the impression that the Columbus is quite similar in it's menu layout to the Bolero?

Ta there's no sound menu as I can see although there are some settings under the tone button which might be the Columbus equivalent. Ill look there again, cheers

Mine's a facelift so perhaps not the same but I don't see why not. There's no option to decrease the stereo audio volume however, there is an option through maxidot to change the level of the volume from the park assist.

Mine was set to mute the stereo volume when i engaged reverse when i got the car but i changed it in the maxidot just just to lower the volume....mines 2011 FL

kit :)

I have a pre-FL Octavia and have front & rear parking sensors and I have OPS & am able to adjust the volume 'dipping' settings using the Columbus. This is accessed by pressing 'Tone' button and there you will see 'PDC Volume Settings' near the bottom of the menu.

Must add that I have updated the CAN (to avoid battery drain with the Columbus) and the PDC was retrofitted recently.

I did need to code the sensors and the Columbus first with VCDS and I also had to 'trick' the CAN into thinking it was a different car before the OPS would start.

So, to answer the OP question: It depends upon what CAN and PDC controllers you have fitted and whether your set up has been coded properly.

I've just fitted a 2011 Bolero in a '58 Octy (with maxidot) and I can't get the volume to drop as it previously did with my old h/u, so unless it's viable via VCDS, it's ain't happening matey boy. :)

If you want to head up to Hereford (or wait until I'm down in Cardiff next) I'll happily take a look with VCDS for you and see if I can get it to work.

No promises though...

unless you've upgraded the pdc and sensors they'll not work with a retrofit columbus and therefore you can't alter the tones via the columbus unit. The most you can do is increase the volume with vcds but not much point as the music in your car will not quieten automatically. Think an ops upgrade may be my next major purchase

Factory fitted Columbus has the option as stated by others, also different sounds for front and rear sensors.

Just tried this on my FL and it worked thanks, also set the volume to lower when guidance instructions are given and to increase with speed

My pleasure. At least I have been able to help someone this week...

Thanks guys. I have front and rear sensors, and also the columbus was installed at build time. The sensors make different sounds but I don't have the PDC volume option under the tone menu, so its either an issue with the older columbus unit I have or i need to look using vcds. Luckily I have a mate with access to vcds, so will do this next. Thanks anyway for the offer of vcds though kb.

If you have two speakers for the two sets of sensors, then I believe that you have the right set up and the correct sensors to be able to get it all going.

Which Columbus unit do you have? And which firmware is it running?

Take a look at the 'My Gti' website, there is a lot of information on there regarding OPD/PDC/Columbus/etc.

I have a revision A original head unit but with upgraded firmware (381x), so it is now listed as a B revision in the hidden menu. I'm not bothered about the optical display, as I wouldn't look at the stereo when reversing anyway. Its just the reduction in radio volume that I need, but for some reason my tone menu is less comprehensive than others' seem to be.

So I figure its either a coding or hardware issue. I'll look at that website though.

Cheers

FL model and maxidot = controlled within maxidot

You can change volume and sound.

the pdc settings on the maxidot is for the actual pdc beeping volume.

here it is on the maxidot....

the pdc volume on the columbus (under 'tones') is for the audio volume in relation to the pdc beeps.

Hopefully i'll get that option on my Bolero if I can get it coded. :(

Been a while now, can anyone confirm if a Bolero retro fitted in a pre-fl octy can be fiddled with or programmed with VCDS or whatever so that the volume drop works like it did with my original Audience headunit??

I did a lot work on this in the end after changing my mind about the usefulness of the optical display which is great. Its dependent on the pdc module not the head unit. The pre FL module doesnt do this with the newer head units, but the FL one does. To fit the FL module needs those wiring changes I pointed you to previously though.

No, I was only asking about the volume drop, not bothered too much about the visuals now.

Sorry for the delay in responding but i missed your question. I found my volume only dropped with the newer head unit in the pre FL once I fitted the FL module. It eas an unexpected bonus side effect.
