octy 2 1.9pd tdi

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am thinking of replacing my current octy mk1,1,9tdi with a mk2 1,9pdtdi, around 2008/09 vintage.

What goes wrong with this newer model, as I have had no problems with my mk1, it's just getting on a bit now.

So how reliable will the newer car be ?, is there any recalls that should have been done ? I will search for a low mileage example, pref below 40'000 miles.

I know that the 2.0l pd tdi has problems with the oil pump drive, so this has put me off a little, any thoughts ?

kev

No Octavia suffers from the oil pump drive, this affected the Superb only.

The 1.9 TDi is bullet proof.

The MkII is also very reliable.

No DPF either.

All I would say is check the A/C blows cold as the system is a weak point just as it is on most modern cars.

Did'nt expect a reply that quick !!!!

so why does the octy 2.0l pd tdi not suffer the same fate as the superb engine, it's the same lump isnt it ?

so that gives me a bit more scope then

A lot of people assume it affected all 2.0 TDi PD engines equally, it didn't.

Only those with a balance shaft driven oil pump (Superb, Passat, A4) are prone to it.

The 2.0 TDi PD engines in all "Golf-platform" cars such as the Octavia use a simplified oil pump drive setup with no balance shaft, very like the 1.9 TDi engines. This is why you don't tend to get this problem with 2.0 TDi Octavias.

This is why I love this forum.

I am a Toyota registered technician, but would'nt run one as unfortunatly we can not build a reliable diesel engine, there's no end of problems, and lets face it vw/audi/seat/skoda all quality with different badges, would'nt run anything else

So guy's does the 1.9 pd tdi not suffer with injector problems, or is that the 2.0l as well, I thought there was a recall for injectors and associated wiring, or am I confusing myself with another issue

The only engine with injector issues is the PD170 fitted to the vRS.

These are being replaced under a VOSA initiated recall for free (the wiring loom is now only included at the discretion of the dealer).
