What the **** have i done now

Featured Replies

Hi All

Think i have done something stupid ? After getting car back from gettin new clutch /fly wheel fitted last week

I noticed on there invoice that they said front brake pads were worn down to 3mm

So to save money and as i have done brakes before, i did them myself1

i thought all had went well and was bedding them in ok ! but on arrival back at my home noticed wetness

On ground quick sniff said brake fluid, so checked master cylinder, and noticed wet on top of it

So imagined that when retracting brake pistons on calipers i had forced fluid back to M/cylinder

Done and seen it before ! I thought fluid was still high so decided to remove some via a syringe

When doing this noticed a small yellow cap on top of body of M/cylinder and thought perhaps this where

You are meant to remove fluid from !!!!!! on unscrewing this cap it revealed to small plastic pipe ends

Underneath surrounded by brake fluid , so just put small cap back on ! and replaced cylinder cap

When turning ignition on red warning light came on, the one that usually comes on if you drive off with hand brake on !

But it is flashing this time ! I lfted cover awayaround M/cylinder to check level properly , and though it wasnt below min it was

A good bit from max level too! so got some fluid and topped it up !but red light still flashing HELP

If you are talking about the plug in the corner of the reservoir, then this is where you drain the reservoir to get all of the fluid out.

The sensor is just under this plug. Check you haven't disturbed the sensor connector.

You may have to take the drain plug out and then fill to the level through the cap.

Thanks had a look at the sensor underneath reservoir seems to be still located in place

not sure what you mean, that is where you drain fluid from as it is on top???

And when removing plug fluid just sits there doesnt drain out!

Or do you have to suck it out or pump it out ???

Wish i had never touched fluid in chamber at all now ! it is stii just below max fill

but cant get anymore in as neck of reservoir is full but there still seems to be air pockets i think???

In reservoir ! Brakes have bedded in ok and clutch still operating fine ! but light still flashing

The drain plug is on TOP of the reservoir. It has the two tubes underneath and yes, you have to suck it out.

Undo that drain plug. My guess, is that there is air around the contacts. Make sure that the tubes are covered and give the reservoir a few taps to release any bubbles of air.

Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes this might reset the system
