Want to get full wheel alignment check - paying per adjustment?

Featured Replies

I've decided I want to send the Octy for a full wheel alignment check. It's not been done since new and at it's first service there was some inside wear noticed on the front tyres.

With my old Octy I chose somewhere that had the "Hunter" equipment as I read this is some of the best alignment checking gear available (so long as people know how to use it!).

So I contacted a place local to me who told me the price was £35inc VAT and included "One Adjustment".

Further adjustments would be charged at £15 each. Now, what exactly does this mean?

Does this mean that say they get my car up, run the check and find all four wheels require some adjustment, that my cost is going to be £35 for the check and first wheel and then a further £45 for the other 3 wheels?

Suddenly it's getting more expensive.

Do cars typically require "lots of adjustments"?

Does anyone know of somewhere in the Cambridge area that has this equipment and would instead change at a flat rate if "one adjustment" is how I've described above?

Cheers.

mine was £40 for one adjustment, then £20 per extra adjustment,it cost £80 in total, which seemed a bit steep but i had to get it done and out of the way

Maybe it would be an idea to ask the garage offering the service

I think it might prove difficult to make one adjustment without affecting the need for others due to the interaction between front and back etc. I paid a flat rate of £95 + VAT as on this occasion I had gone on spec.

My local place uses a John Bean system and charges £25 for one adjustment (eg front toe) and then £10 for each subsequent adjustment, eg camber/caster/rear toe. My old Focus only had front and rear toe adjustment so never cost more than £35 but I think the Octavia has adjustable camber (correct me if I am wrong).
