ODBII protocol / Ultragauge

Featured Replies

Hi all,

This is perhaps a long shot question but l'd be grateful if anyone was able to help...

I'm considering buying an Ultragauge but am having trouble confirming whether it will definitely be compatible with by 2005 Octavia 1.9 TDi. Does anyone know if it is, or if not what the ODBII protocol used by my Octavia is (so that I can check with the manufacturer)? Going by this link I think it may be ISO-14230-4 (KWP2000) but I'd like to be certain.

If the Ultragauge isn't suitable then I'll probably get a Scangauge E, which I think is compatible but if anyone happened to know for certain I'd love to have that confirmed.

For anyone curious, the feature I'm really after on either of these devices is the ability to display the percentage engine load.

Thanks for any help :hi: .

I thought OBDII was a standard and always the same regardless of car?

I'd thought that before today too, however it seems a little more complicated than that:

The Ultragauge website claims to support all protocols, but then just lists a few. Since the website is written with US customers in mind I'd like to double check that the Octavia doesn't use a European protocol they didn't think to test.

VW Golf is popular in US and the same as the Octy, might be better seeing if your reader is compatible with mk5/6 golf.

That's a good thought, thanks. The Ultragauge website has a list of vehicles that it doesn't work properly with, but there are no VWs on it. Will the ECU in my car be the same as a mk5 Golf?

I believe so, but can't absolutely confirm.
