EGR REMOVAL ON OCTY MK2 TDI

Featured Replies

hi all i have an octavia 1.9tdi 2006, i want to clean the egr valve does it have to be taken off or can it be done whilst on the car.I know there are 3 allen keys. and 2 bolts.I cnat seem to to locate the bolt.Your help is appreciated. Also my internal fan doesnt work ,replace fuse but it blows it all the time. The guy who checked told me to get fan something that sits behind the glovebox.Cheers

It is a pig to do, you will need some long allen keys with the ball head too since a couple bolts have to be attacked at a slight angle.

They are in triangle layout around the EGR. There is the Anti Shudder flap too inline. Worth cleaning both, but be careful with removal, stripping bolts etc, and there will be two o-rings too. And the gasket from the EGR cooler pipe.

Could be worth renewing them after.

Yea the fan for the interior sits behind/under the glove box. If you look for the pollen filter (above the passenger footwell) you can work your way back to the fan housing.

Thanks, for thre EGr iam going to take it to a mechanic, can it be cleaned out with wynss egr cleaner whilst on the car,or will be choked up too much car has done 200k.Thanks

You have the 1.9 don't ya. So that is actually not as hard a job as the 2.0 TDI. Should be pretty easy!

You will also do a better job having the EGR out so you can scrape the muck off :)

I am planning to do some EGR cleaning myself, I guide with pics for Octy mk2 would be very appreciated, many thanks!

Interesting.

EGR cleaning was a popular topic on my last car (Rover 75) and many people used to replace them with a straight bit of pipe and used to swear it gave more power :wonder: but I wasn't convinced. Do they get very blocked on the 1.9 TDi ?

I think as an anti-pollution measure (EGR) they can be lived with, rather than the dreaded DPF - which is a disaster by all accounts. If someone does indeed come up with a guide, then I will have a go at it myself.
