1.6 TDi DSG - Opinions?Experiences?

Featured Replies

I am currently thinking of upgrading to a DSG. This is due to:

1. I hate the clutch vibration through the pedal on my manual - I've tried to live with it but to no avail.

2. After the being hit and run, I've lost faith in the car and feel it's a bit unlucky  and in my experience, there are always problems after repairs.

I know I am going to take a hit in the arse pocket, but with the 20% and £500 deal on, this may sooth the cash flow a bit.

So whats your opinions on the 1.6 with DSG or should I go for a 2.0.?

Whats the real difference in fuel use?

Any real pro's and con's.

My favourite topic!

Got a Sept 2010 1.6TDI/DSG hatch.

Only issue you may wish to test is low speed manouvering, i.e when parking/un-parking on an incline.

BUT...............................once moving IT IS very good.

We get about 55 mpg mixed driving, I only live 3.7 miles from work, and ret home for lunch, with longer runs at the weekends.

On longer runs nearer 60mpg, mostly in non mountainous countryside mind, and I "go with the flow", as I'm not a speed merchant, though I do do 70 ish & nearer an indicated 80 odd on the M way.

Mostly only 2 up though.

The daughters 1.4 Diesel Yaris (2012 model) only manages the high 50's overall, mixed driving.

PS

Our 20 year old Son, who prefers the car to his sisters Yaris, complained that he could not get better than 62.6mpg on a liesurly evening run!

Odd child, takes after his father I imagine. (he now likes good red wine, Magners, Guiness and proper British Ales, non of yer "Euro larger" muck or chemical ciders)

**************

Unless towing, in VERY mountainous country and/or heavily loaded, or a power freak, I see no need for the 2.0 diesel.

I cannot comment on the fuel consumption of the bigger diesels, but remember the dry DSG (and the more fuel efficient one compared to the "wet" DSG) is only available on the 1.6 diesel or petrols due to torque limitions.

Oh!

PS

I run her on run o the mill "Euromuck" bog standard diesel, from mainstream suppliers only though.

Dieseldogg, thanks for the reply. I PM'd you the other day about this when you replied to another thread. Is the Tax on the DSG £90 as its only £30 on the manual?

Derp!!

I not be's terribly computer literate IanBenny, so I missed that PM.

And, yes

Its £90.00 but quite why I canny figger,

I swore blind it was £30.00 when the first re-newal came in and even challenged the DVLA aboot it, unsuccessfully like!
