auto gearbox oil

Featured Replies

Goodday all,

could anyone assist me in finding the gearbox oil reservoir? mine is a 2006 Octavia 2.0 FSI with an autobox. Most cars have a dipstick and a place to top up the oil. can't find any on mine!

Welcome to the forum.

Sorry i dont know your model or gearbox, but untill someone comes along that does know,

Is it a possibly a 'sealed' DSG like or similar to my 7 speed ? (dry clutch)

which does not have a gearbox dip stick so nothing to check or any need to change ATF (automatic transmission fluid)

** best to,

Find out if it is a Box requiring a Gearbox service at 40,000 miles or whatever and gets a ATF change,

and if it needs filter or strainer clean or change.**

Goodday George, and thanks for the reply

The thing is... I'm not sure if it's a DSG or not, although i suspect it being one.

One thing for sure, is that it's a 6 speed. No paddle shifters, only a "tiptronic" kind of gear stick.

My wife got this car as 2nd hand, and its missing the manuals etc. so i can't tell for sure.

Best Regards,

Saleem

It won't be a 7 speed dry clutch DSG on a 2006 for sure.

If it's an old school auto or a DSG 6 speed, I don't know though.

"sealed....."

"like or similar........"

I guess this is really informative. Changing gearbox oil

It's an "old school" auto not DSG in your model. They're sealed for life & the oil can only be drained & re-filled through the drain. They're is no need to check unless you have a leak etc? Hope that helps.

Many thanks... but does it have an oil filter?

Yes the filter or strainer as its sometimes called is in the bottom of the gearbox.
