Octy TFSI VRS estate

Featured Replies

Hi all,

New to the forum after 1 year of ownership of a great black 06 VRS. Ive got to say that the info on here is amazing! Delighted that my high oil consumption (a little startling after owning a variety of non-vag sports cars), creamy filler cap after short journeys and a few other issues are so well documented and nothing to worry about! It is a fantastic motor when all is considered and hugely practical with a new sprog in tow. I have had a slight niggle over the last 4000 miles that I am yet to resolve; there is slight chatter from the clutch at idle but when the car is hot (like after a long 1hr run on the motorway) there is a noticeable shake in the car at idle. Could this be the engine mounts or is it looking like a clutch replacement? No slip on the clutch and it only happens after a good 30 mins or so.

Any thoughts would be greatfully received!

Car is on 66000 now.

Cheers!

mine had the shake,i hear it is "normal" although changing the gearbox bushing for a poly one has taken most of the shake away.

i dont have a noisy clutch though

*mine is on 152000,you have many happy years of motoring ahead

Cheers Pastie! Its an awesome car overall if not a little on the poverty spec side (18s but no dual zone, jumbo box or xenons....). Tempted by the FL version but if mines good and could take a fair amount of tuning, why bother!

the xenons are cack anyway, they only seem to light up oncoming drivers eyes,

you are missing out on a large amount of motorway comfiness without a jumbo box though

Mine do not dazzle, and are brilliant

My xenons are awesome and with Maxidot can be switched to a flat beam for European driving. Well worth the initial outlay!

hmm,i might need to get them looked at then, they dont seem to light up the floor very well, only reflective objects

Are they that much better than just some uprated h7 bulbs?

I know I have a FL but proper factory-fit Xenon's was the first option boxes I ticked. Nice and bright and perfect in all weather conditions (with the exception of fog, but we don't get a great deal of that).

Love the "bending" feature on them as you go around corners and my trips into Europe involve a quick Maxidot adjustment as opposed to fitting beam deflectors.

Had an Octavia loan car the other day with halogens. Compared to my xenons the light shocking. Almost like they weren't on !

Back to your original post sounds a clutch issue.

there is a noticeable shake in the car at idle.

Cheers!

Is it a little shimmy, like the car has been hit with a gust of wind (but hasn't)?

If it's that then mine has done it since new and I suspect it's just a character of the engine.

If it's more than a little shivver then you might be best to look further.
