Also what can I protect my coilovers with? they look like thaey will goe rusty very quickly (FK ones)

I use acf 50 on my eibach pro street coil overs and all is well after 5 years.

play in a wheel is normally a wheel bearing. shouldn't be too expensive to fix either but if you have one gone then you will probably have the others follow relatively soon

If it's a bearing, you normally get an annoying noise, before any play. At least in my experience. I suppose it's not impossible for them to collapse entirely internally without warning?

Agree i thought you get that terrible rumbling/droning noise before anything else?

Play would be- track rod, tie rod arm, steering rack but unlikely or maybe bottom ball joint. Most cars as they get older will begin to get some play in certain components like these. Its all about monitoring them really and not replacing unless needed. Wheel bearings can have play but on when dead usually and you would hear a low drone from 30mph up if completely knackered.
