Two years and 20,000 miles...life with Elsie

Featured Replies

Well Elsie just passed two years old...so I thought I would put up some thoughts on 20,000 miles with a yeti.

Have I enjoyed the Yeti?......you bet I have, a pleasure to drive and own, after a few months of ownership it was time for a little bit more power and at the time only one person could map the ecu ....Ben at Shark...after a bit of a discussion on the phone we went all the way up to Shark to see what magic could be done ....and after removing the ecu and opening it Ben asked what I wanted from the new map, never been asked a question like that before ...so had a think and suggested where I would like the power band to be ...and he hit it spot on...with it being a lowly 110 bhp I wasn't expecting too much in the way of extra power....but a trip to JKM a couple of months later proved a bit of a shock....175bhp...no wonder it felt faster  ....since new the only thing to go wrong is the front 12volt socket has stopped working...not bad at all.....so far all I have had to pay out for is one service and two tyres (the tyres were the cause of a very scratched alloy) but the tyres fitters have replaced the wheel with a new one so that is all OK now.

Although Elsie is only 2 wheel drive, off road and snow have proved to be just a walk in the park, something I didn't expect really but I have come to rely on her tackling any terrain...and not been let down yet.

So ...comfort.... easy to drive....sorry FUN to drive...a little bit different...reliable....low running costs....good mpg, average over two years is over 43mpg and that is with a lot of short trips of 2 miles or less.

In about 12 months time I will be finding her her a new owner ...whoever it is will get a very good and well looked after car....but when do I start to order a new one ( yes I am going to get another Yeti) maybe a 170 this time...maybe an Elegance, time will tell.......

right what excuse can I use to go out for another drive now

Very encouraging to read this, especially as it's while I'm still waiting for my first Yeti!

Glad to hear all is going well Octygone.

My Yeti is considerably younger, she is now 19 months, but I have done over 25,000 miles now.

I did think a while ago about changing, but decided there wasn't anything out there I could afford that I wanted, or could offer what the Yeti offers.

I've had a replacement near side door mirror, a faulty main relay and a loose window, and a gremlin in the DSG, which hasn't shown up for many, many months.

I have had other problems, but they were my fault!! Like leaving the video cameras on all the time and running the battery flat. Twice.

Fantastic in the snow and I rescued a mini convertible last time it snowed.

She works amazingly well offroad.

Rockhopper.... Video recorder on all the time? Whats that about?

Octy.... When you remap do you notify the Insurance company? How does it affect the premium? Also what about the warrenty?

I have BlackVue DR400HD vehicle drive recorder cameras fitted to the front and rear windscreens. They are on when I park around London so I can catch any hit & run motorists when parked.

Skoda insurance have charged me 10% extra on my premium for my remap & flappy paddle MFSW.

I've not yet had a problem with warranty.

To find out more look at my car in the project section, link in my signature.

There was a group buy a while back run by BossFox for the DR400's, but I've had mine for longer.

All mods declared just over £300 ....and I think any mod will at least partially void the warranty
