Check Engine Light

Featured Replies

Morning all,

Finished my night shift this morning, and got in the car to find it had decided to throw a CEL light :(

Drove the ten and a bit miles home and it felt alright, could be my mind playing tricks but there did seem to be a drop in pull under full throttle acceleration though. Got it home and turned the engine over on/off a few times, noticed that on start up the idle revs momentarily jumped up to 2000rpm after first starting the engine, and then dropped off to their usual 1100-1200rpm mark - never known it do this before so struck me as strange.

A mate of mine has VAGCOM so going to get him to have a look as and when, haven't had a look under the bonnet yet either, was just wondering if anyone had any "starter for ten" suggestions of what the issue is likely to be, im hoping something simple like MAF issues!

Cheers guys!

could be a lot of things, best to wait until its scaned it will save a lot of time

I have had this happen about 5 times in 140,000 miles

3 x Mass Air Flow Sensors

1 x Coolant Temperature sensor

1 x Coil Pack

So, as the man said, it could be anything.

Find a useful clip on you tube showing you how to clean a Mass Air flow sensor, you may save £75-£100

Right, drove the 15 miles to my mates this afternoons, no issues whatsoever, pulled like a train as per usual.

Stuck the Vagcom back and its returned a 16502/P0118/000280 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (Signal Too High) error:

Cleared the fault code and it hasn't reappeared as yet, gave the car a boot full on the way home and no problems.

Of course, I anticipate it will probably reappear again at some point, as such anyone know the part number for a new Coolant Temperature Sensor, so i can nip to TPS tomorrow

Cheers
