Having power issues can anyone help

Featured Replies

I have a 2002 VRS, re mapped

Sometimes the power just vanishes, it used to do it every so often, when you turned it off and started it again, the power would return and all was back to normal.

Its started to do it more and more often, Now seems to do it everytime I use it, well 9 out of 10 times. I went to the coast the other day which is a 2 hour drive and it did it all way there and all way back, I would turn it off and then start it again and all would be fine for 5-10 minutes, and then back to no power.

If I wind the window down, when the power is there I can hear the turbo whistling, when no power I can,t hear the whistling. There is no smoke coming from the exhaust so I think the turbo is ok.

I,ve had it on several garages computers and there,s no faults showing.

Please help as its doin my nut in now lol

This kind of thing is horrible. You pay professionals and get nothing back in the way of help.

You say there are zero fault codes but are there any lights? Does the car go into limp mode.

Is it only Turbo related? For example, is driving generally OK when you are not booting it?

Thanks for your message mate

yes the car runs sweet as

there is an issue with the secondary air pump but thats all, I,ve been told this should be anything to do with the power issue.

How do you know if its gone into limp mode? I had a fault code "Loss of pressure between the intercooler and turbo" but I,ve sorted that out now and no code coming up anymore.

The only light thats ever come on is the engine light, and fault code comes up for the secondary air pump which I,m going to sort asap but again I was told this shouldn,t be a factor in the power issue. I,ve even gone and bought a code reader myself as I,m sick of paying garages lol

i have this exact problem, but the only code i get up is 'sytem too lean' every now and then. let me know if you have any joy finding the problem

I,m miles away, just outside Sheffield M8, thanks for the message, any Idea what it could be?

Do everything you can yourself easily I.e check all your vacuum pipes, disconnect wiring harnesses and check points/terminals (obviously without the ignition on) and reconnect them, trace grounds back to the chassis and check for corrosion. It's also worth checking all your boost pipes. This will have to be done physically as trying to find a leak by having the cars engine idle and revved will not work! No load on car will result in a very small pressure within pipes - bare this in mind. Keeps the garage bills away and gives you a good insight into your own engine : ) just keep thinking childhood and LEGO lol
