2008 Octavia 1.9 TDI

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and new to Skoda :) Just bought an Octavia and the tyres on it are fine if a bit mismatched - Mohawks on the front and Bridgestones on the back that have seen better days.

I've been looking around on the net for tyres 195/65 91 R15 H - That's the size and rating of the unused spare in the boot so I figure that's the one to go for. Anyway, I usually go with Conti's but before I shell out a load of money on tyres a bit of advice would be good :)

Thanks again

Thanks found the tyre thread :-D

Bit fanatical about tyres - bought a car a few years ago - it came with some Teflon Specials - got rid quick smart - bloody awful tyres - went around a bend at 30 - 40 mph and the car literally went sideways - never again *shudder*

I would double check the size of the tyres ( & wheels !) required as the spare wheel may be smaller in width and lower in profile than the tyres originally fitted by the factory . What are the tyre sizes on the car ?

With 16" wheels you need 205/55 and V or W speed rating.

With 17" 225/45 is the one, same rating.

I have a 1.9 4x4 and it is fitted with 205/60x15 tyres at the moment, all of which need replacing. As with this topic, I have a 195/65x15 spare which is a standard tyre and is unused. Can I change all the tyres to 195/65? The pressure chart in the fuel cap cover includes this tyre size. Are there any insurance or technical implications?

My logic is that if I have a puncture, I can then drive with no speed restrictions imposed by the spare, as it will be identical to the road tyres.

This must be the first reply that suggests putting narrower tyres on than normal!

What's the point in having a 4x4 with skinny ass tyres?
