Noisy aircon

Featured Replies

My aircon has recently become a lot more noisy than it used to be - kinda difficult to describe, but it just sounds like it's groaning/wheezing a whole lot more than it ever did to the point where it's noticeable even when driving along.

From what I've read on here it may possibly be that it simply needs re-gassing, although it's also possible it might be the compressor...?

I had a full VCDS reading a couple of weeks back and there were no aircon fault codes...although I suppose if something only recently failed then there wouldn't have been.

I'm going to get the gas checked first...can anyone recommend somewhere good to get that done? I've heard various things about avoiding main dealers due to excessive ££££££'s being charged, but I've also heard that Kwik Fit aren't the best bet either....is that true? Can anyone recommend somewhere good to get it checked out?

Thanks...

EDIT: what would be a reasonable cost for a service/re-gas?

Around £40-£60 for a regas only. About £20 for them to run the smoke bomb to kill the bacteria in the matrix to get rid of musty smells.

Need to get mine done as well, but want to avoid KwikFit!

Main dealers (Simpsons and Hobins) seem to have offers on at the mo - £45 for a regas and £69 for an aircon service at Simpsons in Colne

Did you ever change the polen filter???

Thanks for the info....

No, not changed that pollen filter so that may well need doing along with everything else!

I change the pollen filter at every service for the few quid they cost - amazing how much crap they collect in a year!

Noisy air con was a low gas issue for me.

Could be low gas, also worth looking at the compressor. If you happen to have a delphi pump the centre bolt might be hanging out.

Turned out to be low gas...got it re-gassed and it's all fine again now - super cold air and no strange noises!

Same here - but I have another issue with the air con which I will start a seperate thread on.
