Tyre wear/pressures

Featured Replies

I've an Octy vRS that I bought new on 2nd Feb this year.

I've always thought the front tyres look a bit flat compared to the rears, but I've checked the pressures and all four are as per the handbook.

It's now got about 6500miles on it, and i checked the tread the other day to see how they're wearing.

The short of it is that the rears are wearing evenly accross the tyre, but the fronts are at 4 on the outside edge and 5-6 in the middle (can't remember what the inner was).

So, questions:

1) What are people getting in terms of mileage out of the original tyres?

2) Does the standard set up, set the front wheel such that uneven wear is expected, or do i need to investigate/get it checked?

3) Would playing with the tyre pressures be of use if the inner is wearing as quick as the outer?

I knew the tyres wouldn't last for ever, but i did expect about 15k out of the fronts - was that naive?

(Of course, i do drive very carefully - NOT :D )

Mine are getting close to the wear indicators on the front (about 1mm off) and I've covered 13,500 miles. It's hard not to spin the wheels when setting off, especially in the wet so I'm sure that contributes to wear.

The wear is even though. Pressures are set at 30PSI all round

At 16K, I have just swapped the rears and fronts around as the fronts were wearing a bit quicker, but I reckon I still have 4K left on the originals. The rears seem to barely wear at all, and still had a good 4mm tread left, the fronts probably at about 2.5mm.

From the original ContiSports I got 35325miles out of a set of four, swapping front to back at around 22k and running 2.2 - 2.3bar all round. Most of the driving was motorway, with frequent spirited bursts around the countryside.

Just passed 41k on the new tyres and thinking about swapping front to back.....already!!

P Zero Assimetrico's just under 20k inc a few laps on track and not rotated that often.

Still have tread but not much lettering on the sides...thats the trick you see get it onto the sidewalls and it keeps the main tread block intact :D

About 32psi for me.

Tyres lasted about 30K miles on my vRS (Conti Sportcontacts) then changed all 4 for the same again. Wear was relatively even all round surprisingly. Run at 2.2 bar on the fronts and 2.1 on the rears. Usage about half motorway, half normal roads.

Likewise I am now on 52K miles on the original set and will have to swap in the next 5K

Did you get the pressures the right way round? I thought it was 2.2 on the back and 2.1 on the front?

My fronts were completely done for at 16k the rears were not too bad but i replaced all 4 at once with Khumo 712's which were fairly cheap and perform well. I run 30 psi all round.

I rarely have anything in the boot (when I do - like going on hols - I tend to pump up the rears a bit more).
