Well I bought it, picked it up, then bang

Featured Replies

These clips are the worst thing about these engines!

I had a pipe popping off on the way back from Germany.

Turned out the metal clip itself had snapped in half.

Hopefully it will just need new o-rings and clips as these are very cheap. New pipes can be expensive. Cheapest being about £30 up about £100.

If the pipes themselves need replacing it might worth considering some self tapping screws.

Just seen this and thought oh no when I knew it was you! ( well oh no for everyone, but I knew you had just picked up) Hopefully it will be a relatively cheap fix, good luck , phew

Happened on my wife's Astra 1.7 TD (Isuzu engine). Huge POP and nack all power. Lots of smoke too. Boost pipe had popped off the bottom of the IC. Put it back on with a jubilee clip and it was fine for another year.

Usually this happens more with mapped cars as they run more boost and the pipes have to cope with more pressure.

Hi everyone, the final instalment !!!!

Yes it was the pipe ! Phew.

I took it to Ross Irvine, who is a mobile mechanic (with a B.Eng degree and used to work as a development engineer for Toyota) and operates in Chesterfield. He found the rubber seal was twisted, that's why it was hard to push back. Soon had it refitted, then cleared down the faults with his Vag Com, and confirmed that the mileage shown was genuine - and he charged me a tenner.

Ross is a useful chap to know in this neck of the woods. tel. 07923277222. www.chesterfieldmechanic.co.uk. he knows about VW's and has a Golf with enough Bhp to make your scream, for his own pleasure.

So thanks for all your help and support. Hope to see some of you at the Midlands meet at the end of the month. !

Excellent result. Pleased you got it sorted with a minimum of expense, and only a medium amount of fuss :)

A Ross tech, with Ross tech!

Glad it's all sorted, now enjoy your car.

Great result! £10, now you cant complain about that and this mechanic sounds like a really handy fella to know!

Excellent result.

Thanks for the useful contact.

great result.

I wonder if some recent work was done and not put back properly resulting in the failure?
