Unmarked Police Octavia vRS's - North East

Featured Replies

I always knew they had them on fleet but have seen two patrolling the A19 over the last few days I was suprised how old one of them was.

Both pre-FL, a black 2006 (56) and a red 2008 (08). Seen a Race Blue one too but didn't see the reg.

I've seen old unmarked police cars in London (an S plate Astra SRi) that are used to look even more inconspicuous but I've never seen a high performance traffic car as old as the black vRS.

It had a tail light out too. They must have intergalactic mileage on them!

My way for checking unmarked has always been to see if there are 2 people in it, and things mounted in the dash.

Not sure how bulletproof a theory that is, though...

Not very.

Some areas run unmarked with just one copper in the car. I know South Yorkshire do.

Same in Hampshire, often running around with just one copper behind the wheel. I always keep an eye out for the blindspot mirror on the N/S, the double rear view mirror and the tell-tale strobes behind the grille and on the bumpers. Some of the Octy vRS' have a tiny camera hidden in the middle of the spoiler and as far as I'm aware, that's not on the spec sheet as a rear parking cam! Have to say though, I've not seen any of the Hants Constabulary in as old an Octy as you have seen.

Theres usaly an extra ariel on the roof aswell or atleast all the ones iv noticed have had at least one extra for the radio equipment

Heard theres a few forces using the superb version of the passat R36

rear view mirror above the passenger seat ;)

I see a lot of those around where I live, but not sure that they are police. They look a lot like learner drivers to me...

I'd say the "L" plates would show the difference there? :p

Cleveland have still got a MkI Occy left running as an unmarked

HMRC will run all kinds of vehicles and there are no Identifying ariels.

Scottish Borders cross Routes you often see them pass over to the Scottish Unmarked and Covert vehicles tracking or spotting vehicles heading North.

Abington is a good place to spot an assortment of covert vehicles.

(then Just look out when travelling north of Kinross/Perth the Vehicles tracking Southern runners heading to Aberdeen, Via Dundee & the Coast Road, or a A90, or across a A93.

Then Serious Crime and Terrorism guys are even less obvious in a more obvious way,

not the brightest often..

Military guys, Transport Police etc etc.

Most Common Now will probably be Olympic 'Special' Police looking for Illigal Ice Cream or Burger vans selling OLympic All Day Specials or

Flaming Burgers.
