Fabia Headlamps!

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if its posible to open up (without destroying) Fabia's headllamps. The one on the driver's side of mine has gone foggy .... and i wonder if there's anyway of getting in there and cleaning it.

if the car is under warrenty take it back and get it replaced. It's a sealed unit.

It's not foggy, it's been 'sanded out'. Happens as the car ages and you keep driving against the wind that has dust particles in the air. Nothing you can do, it's sealed, which means no air can get thru. You'll have to replace it.

I believe they can go foggy if water gets into them - certainly happened on one of my old Micras..... :D

Guy's not wishing to get into a pi$$ing contest but I have read a tech bulletin (Showed to me by the dealer when I took mine back for fogging) which says some fogging is normal as the lights are vented. Worthwhile having them checked but there is a Service Bulletin out about it.

well unfortunately here in D R we only get a one year warranty... so i guess i'll have to replace it when i can...

They are vented as mentioned, plastic lens headlamps cannot be sealed as the heat build up inside the lamp would cause the lens to deform.

Top tip, if your lamp fogs up dampen a tea towel or similar and lay it over the lamp, leave the lights on main beam for around 20 mins, best to do this with the engine running (but supervised of course) and usually the head build up in the lamp will dry them out. This has about a 80% success rate so its worth a go in my book.
