Hissing noise from Wastegate pipe on acceleration

Featured Replies

2010 Superb 140 bhp 2 litre diesel.

The car has developed a loud hissing / squealing noise on acceleration - the sound disapears if you remove the black rubber pipe at the back right of the engine from the side of the the wastegate valve.

There are no warning lights on and no loss of power though i have noticed that the mpg is probably around 10mpg worse now.

Any ideas ?

Dave

Surely car is under warranty isn't it?

If your removing the vacuum feed from the wastegate on the turbo then one would assume you have a boost leak somewhere?

Difficult to say without seeing the car.

No car isnt under warrenty unfortunatly - well, ill rephrase that, local Skoda Dealer says its out of warrenty due to being out on the service schesyle ( long story etc)

The car is drving fine - just this annoying hissing - dont know my way round these engines and turbos etc so where would that vacuum pipe lead to and what would cause a noise from the wastegate with the pipe in but not with the pipe out ? Vague i know, sorry

Which model of Massey Ferguson was that video of?

With the pipe disconnected the turbo isn't working thus not boosting or at least boosting correctly.

Sounds like either a boost leak or maybe a problem with the turbo.

cheers - after a trawl round tinternet it would appear that the same noise - on other VAG diesel engines has often found to have been a crap connection on the intercooler - SO think i shall try and check all pipes are fitted tightly first - where would i find the intercooler lol

At the front of the car, in between the air con condenser and the radiator. Pipes are on the bottom.
