Water in wheel well VRS estate, help please?

Featured Replies

Mate's cleaning my car today, noticed the carpet in the boot was damp, took it out and the wheel well's sodden! Any ideas where the leak might be? Cheers.

Belated bump as I thought I'd fixed it, but obviously not...

I've had to remove the carpet/MDF bracing as it's sodden and causing the interior to steam up badly when it's cold, which is most of the time!

Looking in the boot, the right hand side's just about bone dry, and the left hand side's soaking wet. The metal work on the left's actually starting to get some surface rust, so I'd like to get it sorted ASAP, any ideas please? Looking to order a tin of this as a temporary treatment, but I know I obviously need to find the leak too - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200Ml-Spray-Mastic-Black-Instant-Leak-Stop-Spray-Seal-Roofs-Gutters-Pipes-NEW-/310570360192?pt=UK_DIY_Materials_Plumbing_MJ&hash=item484f6f9d80

have you got a sunroof?

is it water or rear windscreen wash solution?

are the light clusters secured properly (no gaps)?

When you open the boot can you see an evidence of water on the rubber seal?

is it water or rear windscreen wash solution? Good question, never thought of that!

are the light clusters secured properly (no gaps)? Again, good question, I'll have a look when it stops raining...

When you open the boot can you see an evidence of water on the rubber seal? I haven't noticed any, but I'll have a proper look later on.

Thanks for the reply, think this weekend I'll be mostly sitting in my boot whilst the wife sprays the back of the car with a hosepipe, lol! ;)

Good job you mentioned the hosepipe :giggle:(ref: I watched Movie 43 last night, so anyone who has seen the cat scene towards the end will understand)

Check the bolts for the gas boot lid struts too.

Good place to start looking would be in the passenger side hatch in the boot, where the CD changer would be. There is a hose joiner down by the three connectors there that is a common culprit for popping apart and leaking.

Have you checked the under floor grommets? Im having to replace 2 located on the floor under the A post as these are missing and causing wet carpet.

Good point. There was also a hole in my spare wheel well that had some sort of plastic clip in, that I had to replace with a blanking grommet (and some RTV to make treble sure!)
