Softer Ride

I have a FABIA 1 1.2 ESTATE 2009.What suspension will i have to fit to make my car a softer ride?

I'd start with the wheels and tyres -a higher side wall to the tyre will give you a softer ride, what have you got on at the moment?

Yep, start with a higher sidewall.

I imagine with yours being the "1" it will have 15" steel wheels?

It probably already has a pretty big side wall of 55 I think. If your tyre width is 195 and you go for a bigger profile you will probably get some rubbing.

I have some 15" Toledo alloys that have 195 65 15 tyres and they rub going over bumps but the original alloys with 195 55 15 tyres are fine but offer a nice smooth ride.

May I ask why you wish to de-stabilse your car for a softer ride.

Probably sick of the car crashing and banging over speed bumps and pot holes.

Even though ours has a softer ride it does still feel quite firm when you go over speed bumps. Think that is just a trait of this platform unfortunately though as they eat rubber bushes etc.

Have you also checked all the bushes are in good order?

put in busted shockies, leave it on the springs ride will be VERY soft and bouncy!

Like the car from the film Uncle Buck? Carried on boucing for several minutes after he'd stopped. lol

Here, all he said was he wanted a softer ride, i have provided a method for this!

To Greenstripe, steel wheels, 195x55 tyres.Car Is not a comfy ride on bumpy roads.it finds every road defect,It dose not ride the bumps well.Perhaps It's just the way It Is.The road test reports though always states that this model has too soft a ride.Where do they do their road tests? probably on flat calm motorways.Nowt wrong with bushes etc.Car Is only 3years old.Since the suspension Is non adjustable I just wondered if there Is a suspension kit available to make the ride softer without compromising handling.apart from this, the car is pretty good and suits all my needs perfectly.

Not familiar with the Fabia MK2 particularly but "most" VAG group cars are criticised for their handling of bumps and transverse ridges. I'd second the idea of playing with tyres. Uniroyal rainsports have a nice soft sidewall and help a bit (compared to modern tyres where the outside rim wall is "solid" for handling and kerbing purposes). Plus going up size from 55 to 60 might pay dividends.

Wana buy some lowering springs and shocks :)

I found-out quite by accident, placing higher psi tyre pressure has reduced that sudden shock hitting road ramps, even at higher than recommend approach speeds.

Car more bouncy, but at high speeds over 100mph, a steering wheel feedback vagueness is evident.

You maybe able to buy adjustable shock absorbers which can be set perhaps to give a softer ride, ask the seller. ?
