Driving simulator

Featured Replies

Is there such a thing as a driving simulator? It's occured to me that pilots have simulators for flying, but there doesn't seem to be one for driving a car. You simply hop in a car and go. I think it could be beneficial for youngster's to get some kind of experience of real world situations in safety without risking any harm to anyone else.

BSM had some about 5 years ago, no idea if they're any good though. A few institutions in this country have them too, to varying degrees of realism/complexity. I know Cranfield has one, as does TRL.

They're billing the above as the "Ultimate High Performance Simulator" .... it's hardly realistic, that Renault didn't break down even once. Pfft.

As for simulators for new drivers, well 60 seconds ago I was against the idea but having given it a second thought, they may be useful in giving novice drivers experience of motorways and driving in poor weather conditions.

Gran Turismo or Forza? That's about as close as it gets when it comes to an easy option.

GTAIV is an excellent simulator.

Within an hour you can steal all sorts of cars, drive em like a loon, shoot the tyres out of anyone that gets in your way, outrun the cops, rob folk using the ATM, go drink drivin, get 25 lap dances down the club and steal an ambulance to get home.

Just a normal day round these parts.

I'd love a full-sized version of Gran Turismo... one with a big comfy Recaro seat, decent steering wheel, pedals & gearbox to use... it would be perfect to blat about in all the cars I've always wanted to play with, but can't!

As I recall, BMW did one for the launch of the E92 M3..? I could be wrong, but they had an M3 with no windscreen, hooked up to GT4 going round the Nurburgring... if memory serves...

The Driving Force GT wheel for GT5 was on offer in Argos a few months ago. First few goes I couldn't get on with it but once I stopped messing about I found it fantastic. I couldn't go back to a controller now

Years ago there had a game in the amusements in scarbough with a Mazda mx5, was a crap game but least you sat in a real mx5 lol
