Feeling horny

Featured Replies

One thing I don't like about my Fabia is having to take my hand off the steering wheel rim to sound the horn. With many cars you can just press the spoke of the steering wheel, but the Fabia doesn't work like that - you have to hit the pad in the middle of the wheel. It's often at a corner or junction that you need to give a toot to let someone know you are coming, but that's just the time when you need both hands on the wheel.

Does anyone else find the same? I can't see there is any way to modify the wheel.

Normal VW trait, personally I find a quick thump of the middle more than adequate without causing alarm. But as to know of a way to adjust etc....no I cant help.

I feel your pain it's just one of the things i don't like but came to the fact that i have no choice but to live with it!

I find pressing firmly on the horn symbol with the heel of my palm while keeping my fingers wrapped around the rim of the wheel works just fine

Find that i can just reach across with my thumb (while still holding wheel on rim) to the top part of the horn push where it joins the spoke.

Firm press is all it needs so you can pap and parp to your heart's content.

You probably have bigger hands than me!

I still find a thump with the side of a fist much more rewarding :D

not as stress releiving as hitting the wheel! :D little tooter on the edge reminds me of little a metro my gran used to have

Can always head-butt the wheel in the middle. Let's face it, most of the time its due to frustratingly stupid behaviour of someone in front/side anyway

Actually I found it all too easy to hit the horn when I just got the car as the 'sensitive' bit is pretty close to the 'wheel' :)

I seldom have use the horn, in a real emergency I feel there would be no time , the only time I use it is when I observe a danger and have time to alert someone of my presence - the most unused bit of kit on my cars, cant remember when I last had the need to use it.

I agree with you. My post was prompted by an incident on a roundabout when I would have liked to give a quick toot to say "do you know I'm here?", but it would have meant taking a hand off the wheel to hit the button. The first priority is always to drive out of trouble. But if the button was nearer the rim I could have touched it with a fingertip.

Try driving through southall/hounslow at rush hour  can say I have the same trouble I either use my thumb or the base of my palm (if that makes sense) I usually use my atleast once a week...............I've paid for it so I might aswel get some use out of it! :D

Had to use my horn twice this week on roundabouts. Is it me or do people not check RH mirror when they are going straight over and therefore cut you up in the RH lane, causing you to brake/honk horn/swear/thank God that it could have been worse, and then continue on your journey a little perterbed by the incident, wondering if it had been worse who's insurance would have payed out?

And relax.......

I live in Streatham and when I have to drive around here its the twice an hour syndrome!!! The drivers around here are shocking. Mercades van doing about 70 mph down my residential road yesterday  :finger:

I was reversed into by a stupid woman in a rav 4 the other week and got a golf mkvI SDI as a courtesy car and the horn was the nost embarresing horn i have ever heard!! I couldn't use it as it just sounded like a small child crying very quietly, it was a joke...

Now I have my meaty horn back that everyone can hear... love it :D

In fact come to think of it, my old E reg ford popular 1.3 had a better horn than that golf!!
