Fitted MFSW to FL Vrs but can't get it to work (and now I dont have CC or a horn!)

Hello all

I've fitted a new FL vrs steering wheel to my 2011 vRS along with a new controller and wiring loom. Since fitting I have lost the horn and CC and can't get the buttons on the steering wheel to work.

I have numerous fault codes along the lines of CC open/short and basic settings missing. I have tried (and failed) to complete basic settings. I have tried (and failed) to tell the "steering wheel" module in VCDS that there is a MFSW. It just says "coding not accepted, out of range" when I try that.

There are no faults on the airbags and no warning lights. The adaptive lights still turn and the cornering fogs also still work.

Any advice would be great, im stumped!

Thanks

Phil

Had a similar thing happen on a wheel I fitted recently.

I assume the controller was s/h? if so there will be items enabled that need to be disabled.

I will post up the long code for you in a bit (it's on the netbook).

You...are a legend! Those faults look identical to mine, and I have got the H controller. I'll give this a whirl in the morning when I have the car again and report back. Thank you very much!

Of course he is

It took a couple of hrs to work out which code was blocking the buttons not working, along with the horn & cruise.

A couple of questions -

BTW do you have cruise ? If not you may need to switch it off as this code includes cruise activation.

When you have done this can you let me know of the right side thumbwheel & the bottom button on the right works on yours ?

I do have cruise. And I will let you know re the roller/buttons. I'm expecting them to operate the maxidot though, which I have not yet had fitted... I'll see what happens.

Ah in that case they probably will work as you intend, on Steve's car it had maxidot before, so the controls for that are on the wiper stalk, thinking out loud now Steve, but did I look to see if I could turn off the maxidot controls on the stalk?

Mine currently has the standard Trip computer which is controlled by the stalk buttons, however, I did notice there is a ticked option along the lines of "computer control via wiper stalk" so I wonder if disabling this could solve your problem?

Update - the above code worked (well the buttons work, and there are no faults. I didn't test the horn as its 12:30 :) thank you again.

Re the buttons on the right, the ticky box is byte six but I tried unchecking it and it stopped the wiper stalk buttons from working but didn't make the roller work. I'll have another fiddle tomorrow and update if I get it working.

Phil, did you see the table in the manual about what the roller is supped to do ?

As the instruction i found wern't clear if it was maxi dot or the Bolero where you were supposed to see the results. ( I take it you have the Bolero & not upgraded to sat nav - columbus)

Martin- Maybe we can try mine @ the meet ?

To be honest, I haven't looked in the manual. However, pressing the right hand roller in changes my trip between 1 and 2, or holding it resets the trip.... So it is doing the same as the reset button under the wiper stalk. Rolling the roller does nothing, nor does the lower button (back arrow?) on the right hand side. The top button changes between radio and media on the bolero and the left hand buttons all work as expected....

FYI - The manual says that the roller button is supposed to scroll up / down the menu, the back arrow is supposed to take you back up a folder, i suspect pressing the roller brings up the menu that you can scroll round.

  • 2 months later...

Thanks Phil,

I am picking up my new vrs on Friday and have been through the "you can't have a MFSW unless you have a DSG" what a load of rubbish, then it was " oh it is way to complicated to fit that"

Is it right that Shark can fit and code all this up?

i retrofitted MFSW with paddles on my Octavia II FL 2011 Ambiente  model.  Also changed the controller to High line.  Steering controls and Paddles are working flawlessly. However i am unable to operate MFD on the cluster(standard cluster, not maxidot) using wiper stalk buttons or with steering controls. MFD is fixed on temperature display. I cannot change to any other display (Digital speed, avg. km/lt, distance, etc).  however Wiper controls are working in order.

What is this turn signal short to ground error.
Folks kindly advise how to make the MFD controls functional using wiper stalk or steering controls.  As far as i know streering controls for MFD work only on maxidot cluster. Since mine is a standard cluster, there should be some way to make wiper stalk buttons functional.
