Locking Wheel Nuts - Worth it?

Featured Replies

The new ones are a far better design that I can't imagine will ever slip or jump, so I'm much happier with them.

Only discovered afterwards that the new ones are smaller diameter heads, so the previous plastic covers don't fit them. I think I was £2-3 to order 4 new caps.

How new are these, as I found this to be totally the opposite!

The locking wheel bolts on my 2004 Superb and 2004 Golf were FAR better than on the MY11 Superb and TT, so much so that they both now use the older style locking bolts.

Insurance companies will look for anything not to pay out so if someone steals your wheels and you didn't have locking wheel nuts on don't expect them to pay out.

That falls into my 'obviously if it's relevant' category ;)

The poster several points above said 'if you have a smash' so my point being that, as long as a bolt held firm the insurance company are not exactly going to try to use a lack of locking wheel nuts as the basis for denying a claim - and een if they tried I reckon they'd fail.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've even been asked about this in recent years.

locking nuts are there to stop them just think you go shopping and come back to your car on its belly then you got to have it dragged on a low loader i would just buy a new set if the key has worn out

Well, couldn't get a tool/key from the dealer for about two weeks as that one is on back order :( Typical! So got my 4x new bolts from GSF and put those on. Getting old locking bolts out really knackered the tool as monkey had over torqued them. Even had to use an extension bar to shift them! Had to hammer tool loose from bolt after each removal it was so mangled. Now have 4x shiney bolts and much relief. Will buy new set of locking bolts I think.
