just bought a skoda

Featured Replies

Hi, my last Skoda bought many years ago was a Rapide coupe great fun but lots of cooling issues, now in what appears to be a fit of insanity I changed my reliable but horrifically thirsty 94 Volvo 850 estate to a 2002 Fabia 1.4 mpi estate supposedly according to the book main dealer service and low mileage. Managed 100 miles and gearbox started more play fore and aft (not the mount) than I have ever known in a runner shortly followed by head gasket disintegrating allowing liner to move plus appalling tappet noise.Source another engine (which sounds like a tank but runs) and box and change. Now its hunt the fault code time slowly getting rid of some of them the most annoying is the coolant warning light that comes on beeps when you first start then if you restart goes away.

It will be interesting if I can keep sane enough to get it together rather than pushing it off Portsdown hill to compare it to my 72 Saab 95V4 both cars estates similar engine size and general size though the saab seats seven has air con via the floor ( it has an appointment with Mr Mig) will some 30 years of auto progress make the Skoda my daily driver or just drive me insane?

Welcome along ghe
