Steering Issue Again

Featured Replies

A few months ago I lost the power assisted steering on my vRS.

After a VCDS scan and checking sense wire etc it was decided the power steering pump was at fault.

I removed it and sent it off for a rebuild ( a fault on the mainboard was found ).

Re-fitted and everything was fine.

Now coming home from work tonight the steering went again, a complete loss of assistance, I thought I would nurse it home and a couple of miles later it all sprang back into life.

Got home and I checked the battery light comes on, on the dash (which it did) and ran VCDS but there are no faults found.

So now I am wondering what caused it and to top it all off the Mrs was in the car and now wants me to sell it as she wont drive it now as she is scared it will happen to her.

Any help on what it could be would be appreciated.

Anyone?

Have you checked your battery, earth strap, battery connections and the fuses on top of the battery?

If there is a fault in any of these it can "trip" the power steering out. I had it a few weeks ago when the battery negative clamp was a little loose. It would either trip all the electrics out in the car or just the power steering pump.

The other possibility is the steering angle sensor. This should show on a scan if it's at fault.
