DSG troubles and warranty question

Featured Replies

Most of 7 speed DSG users probably know already there is an issue with clutch wear in gearboxes manufactured before 2012 and some might even know in most countries 7 speed gearboxes that developed harshness and judder in first 100,000 km are being fitted with uprated clutches under warranty. In few countries, VAG group even extended warranties on gearboxes - China got increase of warranty on the DSG gearbox to 10 years and 160,000 kilometers, Russia was extended to 150,000km and 5 years.

My DSG, after 50,000 miles is in need of replacement, but the problem is difficult to diagnose. The judder, knocking and shaking starts only when the clutches are hot, 30-40 minutes in town traffic. It is gradually getting worse, and now at 53,000 miles it's definitely worse than it was, but as I still have 5000 miles to the nearest service interval and I need the car daily, if I wait with reporting it, I'll be cutting it dangerously close to the end of warranty period.

So my question is to those who had their DSG clutches replaced already under warranty

- is Skoda UK acknowledging this common issue and action replacement under some VAG technical advisory or do they still play the usual "never heard of, never encountered" hear-no-evil monkey routine

- has VAG/Skoda UK extended warranty periods on DSG gearboxes in line with other countries outside of EU by any chance?

Skoda UK have a brilliant tech support dept. and in DSG issues dealers have an obligation to report form to fill out. We then send that along with a download of measure block values to our team at tech support. They analyse the data and help us with repairs. They are very good at what they do too.

I have a July 2011 and done 16,000miles i have notice the car sometimes judder for a fraction of second on set off. should i be worry about it or do i take to dealer now?

Personally if it was me I'd take it in sooner rather than later. If it's under warranty a good dealership should give you a loan car. That's just my personal opinion.
