Rear wiper motor

Featured Replies

Well it seems my rear wiper motor has all but had it. Most the time it does half a wipe if im lucky. Are all the Mk1 octy rear wiper motors the same?

Cheers

Strip it down and clean it out, they are known for it. It's easy to do.

It is water ingress buddy. As Big Lee states you can strip it down but beware it will come back and bite you as the reason you have the problem is because the water has got into the electrics due to the really stupid design and the metal shaft in the motor leaks. Only real permanant fix is to replace unfortunatly

I stripped and cleaned mine up, loaded it with fresh grease. Lasted about 4 months before it died again, replaced it with a rubber grommet for now!

I did the same with mine, fresh grease and new o ring and all is well

how long has it been working for though??

Not many last long due to my previous mentioned point of a carp design, perhaps you have better luck

I stripped 2 previously and each lasted less than 3 months, So repaired 2 and bought 2 second hand that only lasted a year a piece. Gave up now and fitted a rubber bung as can't be bothered buying a new one at over £100

Exactly my thoughts Bowders! No point in replacing it when it's going to break again, my car isn't dirty long enough to have to worry about it!!

it is really a 2 man job as 1 person needs to locate the rear of plast panel up into the little metal clips (5 or 6 of them on tailgate) as the other person is locating the grab handle and the plastic lugs. The metal clips are well known for coming off with the trim instead of staying in situ. If this has happend you need to pull them off plastic panel and refit to tailgate and then fit panel into them as mentioned earlier.

if you blank off the rear wiper, can someone give a link to a blanking cap?

Also how do you sort the issue of rear wash? where do you disconnect it?

I just got mine from local autofactors for a quid.

11 years and is working great :)

just get a rubber blank from motor factors like halfords think there largest one which is 25mm.

I just pulled rubber hose from wiper motor asm and plugged it with a bolt and cable tied it up to the tailgate out of the way

I plugged the hose end that connects to the wiper arm motor asm on the rear. Just pull it off and plug it.
