Slight knocking noise at clutch biting point

Featured Replies

Hmm now I've been driving the vRS a bit more, I have notice a bit of a slight knocking noise when manoeuvring slowly at the clutch biting point, both in 1st and reverse. This is on a September 2011 registered 2.0TSi manual hatch.

Possible signs of an issue with the DMF or a normal trait (just come from a DSG A3) car has done 9.5K miles. Kept my hand in with manuals as my Mrs has an MX-5 so isn't my driving  .

Thanks.

Checked the engine mounts?

My fabia had a donking noise turned out to be the dog mount.

Either way under warranty take it into the dealers.

Will get them to check it out, it does vary with the revs though.

As I was at the dealers today to sort out some paperwork for my trade-in, I spoke to the service department and had one of the Techs take a listen. Apparently what I can hear is the DMF doing its stuff at the biting point of the clutch.

He started to explain what the DMF was, so I let he know the I knew all about DMFs. He said that I would know if it was on the way out as they get very loud.

He did say that a few people have reported that the EA888 injectors are noisy, but that it is normal.

They had a brand new vRS estate in race green in the showroom with the carbon-fibre look dash trims - tempting - well until I ordered the Nav trim from parts in the brushed ally to match my trims.

Load of nonsense its your DMF on the way out.

Load of nonsense its your DMF on the way out.

Hope not - a demonstration to my mechanic mate is on the cards then and see what he says - the car has only done a shade over 9K miles.

Oh well if it is then Skoda will be paying for it to be replaced.

Best of luck, been battling with Skoda for a year, they have replaced everything apart from the actual broken part fecking useless!!!

Well if it does turn out to be the DMF on its way, I will suggest that it would be better to change it than run the risk of having to replace the whole box when it lunches itself and parts exit via the gearbox casing.

We'll see though, certainly doesn't sound terminal at the moment.

Had something similar on Fabia VRS - a single "knock" when taking up drive/ bite. Was the engine mount under the battery needed "lubricating". Dogbone was replaced but made no difference.

Not aware of a similar issue on Octy though - DMF is a possibility and quite common which is crazy for a car so young. It should outlive the clutch..... Seems par for the course these days with VAG though. Longevity is not something they aspire to, at all. 9k is barely run in. :(

To be fair DMF isn't just a VAG issue, other marques have issues with them too.

Yeah I know. I'm just cynical at the moment. Grizzle is the same. Both bitter from having unreliable cars and getting to know customer services on a first name basis.

I've had my share of DMF issues, and to me, I think it's the lower engine mount and not the DMF.
