Oil Level Sensor

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Can anybody help me in locating the Oil Level Sensor please on a Octavia vRS 2003 model? Pics would be very useful.

I'm replacing this 1st as an elimination process as my oil light decided to start flashing red at me yesterday :-( . If this works BINGO, if not I shall then either consider an engine flush or a replacement oil strainer? Any ideas on what to do 1st would b appreciated however as I only paid pennies for a brand new sensor I'm Finking there's no harm in fitting it.

Cheers

The oil level sensor is in the bottom of the sump. However this will have nothing to do with the red light flashing. The level light will be a yellow warning as its not a major problem.

Your oil pick up is blocked, needs replacing or cleaning out.

DO NOT START OR DRIVE IT!

If you do you WILL kill the engine

Ah rite ok, I spoke to a technician today and he said a yellow light meant low oil and red light was low oil pressure and that sensors were common to go on 01-05 models? I'm guessing this is now not the case.

Either way then if I remove the sump to get to the strainer I'm gonna have to replace the oil so I might answer do a flush at the same time? By doing this am I risking damaging the engine because am I right in saying u have to run the engine for aprox 5mins when the flush is in?

No I haven't turned the engine on since, I've even gone to the extreme of having the car towed up onto my 2nd drive as its level

Yup you have a good chance of destroying the top end by running it.

Think the pick up pipe is under a tenner from skoda, you will also need to go to a motor factors for some sump sealent as skoda wants over 15 quid for it!

I think oil pressure senders are one of the rarest ones to fail, haven't seen a post in 3 years on here about one failing.

Would you know the part number for the pick up/strainer pipe?

The oil pressure switch is on the oil filter housing at the front of the engine.

It is very very unlikely that a sensor mounted in the sump is going to monitor oil pressure, oil in the sump is not pressurised.

I personally would not flush the engine. I would just drop the sump, renew the pick up. Clean the sump out and re seal. Be very careful to use the correct sealer from Skoda and don't use to much. If you apply too much so it squidges over the edges and hardens and drops into the sump. This then blocks the pick up and your back to square one.
