Led bulbs fitted but canbus confusion

Featured Replies

Hi all i fitted white led bulbs in my rear number plate lights and interior and side lights all with the canbus system today my mate followed me and said one of the rear was flickering when i got home it had gone out completly so i removed the bulb to check and it looked light parts of the circuit board was burnt i put it back in and it seemed fine for a couple of seconds but then if started flickering and went off also my engine was running and my canbus system didnt warn me a bulb was out this has also failed to tell me when i removed a side light bulb please help

don't need canbus bulbs in em. . coz it ain't got canbus, that'd explain why it dint warn you :-)

the flashing could probs be solved with a resistor.

So what bulbs are covered by canbus system lol i could have saved money aha

non i don't think. . n haha yeah ya could,i bough canbus hids then found out it dint need em.

When i brought my car a light kept on flashing warning me i had a bulb out on the clocks what was that then :/

have you got the maxidot cluster?. . coz mine has no bulb out warnings and mine an 07car on a 56 plate.

Whats a maxidot cluster lol

Canbus monitors important bulbs like brake, head and tail lights on

a MK1 Fabia. Sidelights aren't included nor are number plate lamps

in the canbus system.

Sweet thanks mate

And this is a maxidot cluster.

maxidot.jpg

Only found on Mark 1 vRS Fabias with the optional sat nav unit specced at purchase.

Can be retrofitted but is a pig of a job apparently.

Why would i need this i dont see any use for that for me :/

Linked to the sat nav it gives you directions via the instrument binnacle,

Also perhaps Radio station info, warning messages, and a few other things?

Plus all the same functions our poverty spec Fabias have on the button on the end of the

wiper stalk (trip computer etc) but with a bigger clearer display.

They are pretty rare, I've never actually seen one in a Fabia Mark1 before apart from in pics

and I've looked at a few of these cars in the metal by now I'd say.

How do u fit a resistor ?

Can't say I'd bother with a resistor but essentially it needs to be soldered

onto each end cap of the led bulb ensuring first that it (The resistor) is the correct value.

Probably cheaper and easier to just get a new pair of LEDs,

You may just have a duff one. Mine have been in for over 3 years and have never failed

flickered or gone blue. I bought my set from Powerbulbs I think, and they were around the £6 mark.

...Resistors, like LEDs only function correctly when they are the right way around...

Not correct - resistors can go either way around - the polarity doesn't matter.

Oh fair enough, I was sure it was as I said. But I do know sir, that you

know your onions on this topic so I shall amend my post and go and stand in the naughty

corner. :D.

It's just brakes lights that our warning light works on I think. Even non maxidot cars have this, just a little bulb light on dash.

The maxi dot doesn't offer anything much more than the normal dash (Mr Grr has covered the main bits) but it does look a bit more plush & upmarket. My mates fabia use to have it (ex demo) but iv never seen one since. Ultra rare which adds to the wanting it I guess lol. Iv got a factory satnav unit & would love the maxidot but it's just too much money & work tbh. :(

My bulbs were expensive aswell i also when using my window wipers get a flickering from my centre led bulb inside the car :/

Needs a resistor soldering onto the centre light in the light pod to stop that.

Ill end up setting my car on fire

Essentially, aren't the canbus leds already done?

So as not to trigger warnings?

Maybe cheap and cheerful is the way to go since

those lights aren't monitored anyway?

My sidelight LEDs have been in for about 2 and a half years.

No flickering, No blueing, no failing.

They were about £2.50 for the pair.

I put another set in my maplights and a cheap 12 smd led panel

festoon into the centre light. Never had any trouble with any of it.

Never paid much for any of it.

The only ones I spent a few quid on were the numberplate lamps.

I spent £10 on two bulbs for my numberplate lights and the left one started flickering then went off ive now swapped it for the interior middle one and has sorted the rear lights but the interior center one must be broken as it flickers then goes off inside now lol

I keep meaning to buy some number plate LEDs; what size are they?

In reference to maxidot - the most useful thing I find about it is the intergration with sat nav, it displays the directions so you don't have to divert your eyeline too much.

And it frees up the small screen so you have a permenant clock.
