ABS Light

Featured Replies

Golf GTI turbo 1999.

ABS light came on a few weeks ago so I bought a fault code reader with the ability to erase.

Anyway it says it's a speed sensor fault so I left it.

Anyway MOT today and the light was on so I tried to erase and it just came back so I've changed the sensor and..... Light still on!!

They won't pass it with the light on and that's the only fail!

Ideas please.

Don't say remove the bulb because I might as well sort it than mess about taking dash apart.

Removing the bulb won't help anyhow, will still fail the MOT

What sensor is it and what was the fault code. Need a little more detail to go on, your post is pretty vague.

Well up until when the new MOT stuff comes in, the ABS lamp won't have to follow a sequence and come to think of it nor will the airbag light.

Did you use a reputable brand/source of the sensor? It could be a wiring fault, you could check resistance/continuity across the sensor.

I'm thinking possible bearing/rotor issue maybe, especially if someone had fitted spacers or aftermarket wheels and used bolts that are too long.

Turns out the fault code reader I bought was saying the wrong sensor!!

Fecking eBay!!

Anyhow replaced both and car sales through MOT with no advisories.

Not bad for a teenager with 157,000 miles under its wheels!

Had service and replaced most expensive spark plugs in the world and it's now running like a dream.

VAG is the only cars I would spend my own money on, due to new legislation that started on May 1st, if your engine management light is on the MOT testers won't even look at it!

Good look vauxhall drivers!!!

Oh and taxi's!

You're mistaken there, the new stuff hasn't come into operation yet as the legislation to allow it hasn't gone through yet.

The engine management light will not be part of the test, it isn't even mentioned in the testers manual. If anything, when the new stuff comes in, it will be easier to get around ABS and airbag lights because they will remove the requirement for them to go through a self test. If they light up, indicating a fault - they'll fail, if they don't light up at all - they won't fail. There'll be alot of cars out there with their ABS/Airbag warning lights covered up or disconnected.
