Towing Indicator Light in Dash?

Featured Replies

Good afternoon all,

I have a towbar fitted to my 04 VRS ( did it myself) and I was wondering if there was the option to have the dash binacle coded so that extra lights appear when you have a trailer connected, or whether a buzzer in the back would be the easier / cheaper option (although it would drive me round the bend)

Thanks

Rob.

instaed of a buzzer, install a wee led up front some where.

I was thinking this but was unsure of how to do it :/ the buzzer came with instructions but kinda confused me . . . wouldn;t I need resistors and all sorts of complicated electrical stuff for LEDS?

the buzzer would buzz when the indicaters or hazards are used, so instead of buzzer use a light that will flash in time instead. It will need a couple of relays or it will complete a circuit and either indication will bring both sides on.

No need for resistors, this is only for changing existing vehicle bulbs to led as the car senses drop in current draw and assumes a bulb is out and flashes like a madman.

Open up the buzzer box, disconnect the buzzer, and stick a multimeter across the two wires, as long as you always get the same polarity when indicating (left or right), then pop to Maplin and buy a 12v LED, then you don't even need a resistor. Job done.

I mounted my buzzer box in the boot, under the left cluster, but wrapped the box up with insulation tape to make it a bit quieter....

OK, Ive got a wiring diagram off the net, just a bit confused as to where the buzzer would go:

as the diagram suggests, it just goes between the wires for the indicators, and then earth it to an earth point.

From what I can work out it goes a bit like this:

Indicator on Left of car -----wire----- buzzer-----wire-----------to rest of 12N wiring

Indicator on Right of car ---- wire ---- buzzer -----wire -------to rest of 12N wiring

                                            |

                                            |_______earth to car body

Have I got this correct?

Sorry for being simple

Rob
