DTUK Digital Diesel Tuning Chip

"The idea behind the tuning box is to intercept the signal between the ECU and the injection system usally the common rail and basically allows it to inject more fuel into the cylinders thus producing more torque and power, and because of this the engine is running more efficiently the fuel consumption is also improved because you would have to use less throttle for similar conditions."

So they are saying you use less fuel as a result of squirting in more. Hmmm. Only £332 pounds. I wonder if its also good for your abs and removing black grime from tiled floors.

You have to wonder if its this easy, why don't the manufacturers include it as standard.

Wouldn't bother, guy at work got one for his bmw 318d. No improvement at all. After no end of hassle it would seem that its faulty. After looking inside the box to change the jumper settings, i swear its just the same as the 8p resistor mods you used to pick up on ebay. I would be very careful with these things, someone is laughing all the way to the bank.

Another guy at work had a different tuning box (dragon i think) on a 320d. He is selling this due to engine management light issues etc (although did notice a power increase). Now has an AMD map pushing 220bhp with 500nm. Loves it, Proper remap or nothing i would say.

Just my thoughts anyway.

My brother has a BlueFin (Superchips) module on his car but this is something you connect to the OBD port and is flashes the map on the ECU so not a plug in box that "fools" the ecu into thinking the engine is doing something it isnt.

Good thing with the BlueFin is that you can reflash the base map back on when you want / need to.

Revo SFS options do the same thing.

Not the same engine but:

DTUK quote £360 (down from £399) to get my 105bhp to 144bhp

Whereas Shark quote £299 to get it to £145

The only differences I can see are: (if I've read all the Shark stuff properly) Shark's remap is tailored for "your" car, whereas the DTUK is just a bunch of settings that you're hoping will do the job, and that the DTUK one is a "self-tune", although again, just from a bunch of settings that could work with anything.

Personally I'd be happier driving up to Shark and see the work done by a pro, than to trust a box of flashing lights off the internet, especially one with such a wide margin of improvement (20-40%)

No experience with the DTUK tuning box but had a TUNIT box fitted to my last two Peugeots.

The 406 did 136000 miles with no problems, the increase in performance was very noticeable especially when overtaking with power available up to the red line. The car was much nicer to drive and able to pull much higher gears if required all this with no change in fuel consumption.

The 307 Xsi was even better performance wise with power and torque outputs the same as the Octavia, the only problems were an appetite for front tyres and a clutch that destroyed itself at 40000 miles, it just couldn't take the torque increase.

Have not noticed a need to go down this route with the Octavia, it's plenty quick enough for me.

Spend your money on a quality remap, that's the best advice I can give.

Totally agree with the above comment.

If you "Like" their Facebook page, today they posted a customer review of a tuning box fitted to an A3 with the CR170 engine. A very positive review. I've tried one of their boxes on my last car, Astra MkV 1.7 CDTi, on roads I know well it was transformed, felt like a 2.2 and I had to wonder why Vauxhall don't make them like that. Emissions, presumably.

They are having an open day next month, when I last went they were plugging the boxes in for people and sending them for test drives to judge for themselves. Worth a visit, they put on an excellent spread and have a good supply of detailing products, too. And since I'm starting to sound like an advert for them, no, I'm not in any way connected, I just pass them on my way homw from work :)

I ran a Dragon digital tuning box on my Vectra for 4 years and didn't have a single issue. I noticed a massive difference in the in gear performance however when it was going for the MOT I hated taking the box off as the car felt like a slug !

Does anyone know if these are any good, or even if they work? Call me sceptical, but i would prefer to know if anyone has tried one of these fitted to there CR170 Octy?

ps sorry if someone has already posted..

TBH I am also interested in this as the warranty issue still bugs me. There may be ways around it (remapping a new car then having warranty issues) but I really don't want to be bothered with the hassle. Plus there still seems to be the issue of having to physically open up my ECU (although bluefin claim not)

DTUK have released a new tuning box through their website, the new one controls both boost pressure and fuelling (the one in your link only modifies the fuel pressure on the common rail) which i am more interested in and can be removed if necessary.

If only they weren't so damn expensive and I would really like to try one before buying!
