New vRS owner - or will be when the order is sorted

Featured Replies

Afternoon all.

I'm about to order a new vRS through my companies lease scheme (lex) and am happy with the spec of the car i can request but wanted some ideas / thought on options.

The demo car i had came with the Columbus unit and although the last 2 lease cars i've had came with integrated nav units i'm just not getting on with the columbus and for £1400 on the options list i'm not willing to sacrifice things like metallic paint, xenons and a couple of other options.

The other thing the car will be missing is bluetooth phone prep. I'm sure i'm not the only one who thinks Skoda are missing a trick here though.

So, when the car arrives i'll be looking at a phone device and then later on a nav unit of some sort.

What are the general thoughts around these? My initial thoughts were a Parrot CK3100 or similar and a tomtom but are there better options for similar or just slightly more cash ?

Thanks, Nige

I'm just about to order another vRS - I have a garmin hardwired into the dash top box at the moment on the current car which works ok, but for the new one I have an ebay columbus (340 quid) that I'll fit myself. When the car goes back I'll swap it back to the bolero and pop the columbus back on ebay.

Skoda do two navigation headunits, the Columbus and the Amundsen...

Thanks for the replies guys ;)

I've done a bit of digging since posting the questions and have seen a few of the options available online / on eBay... the Amunsden is the same unit as whats in my Leon FR at the moment (RNS310) and i have seen a + version which is the RNS315, i like that unit a lot.

I suppose the problem with the factory units (Columbus and Amundsen) is you still have to add the bluetooth module at additional cost and have that coded to work with the unit etc.

I think I'll keep my eyes open for bargains ;) and then see whats what when the car arrives... which wont be till January :( - still, the order has been placed so its just a waiting game now.

Thanks again, Nige

Bluetooth - you could always buy a Supertooth Buddy - £49.95, - was the Auto Express 'Best Buy", when they tested some of these devices a while back. Small metal clip on the sun visor and it clips on magnetically.

I've got one of these and it's paired up to 3 phones, the built in speaker is excellent. When I go out in my MX5 - (Mk1), I just swap it over. Why pay to have something built in? when there is something as good as this. I only use it in billy basic mode, but it's got voice dialling etc., if you want to use that. I feel much the same about sat navs. Why pay zillions to have a built in one, when you could buy a new Tom Tom, for the price my brother paid for a new CD to update the Sat Nav in his S Type Jag.

Tom Tom or similar is more versatile - can be used out walking in the country!
