Daytime Running Lights

Featured Replies

I have just bought a 2012 Roomster 1.2SE with the various factory fitted add-ons. One thing it doesn't have is daytime running lights which I had on my previous car, a VW Polo. My preference would be a set of the multi-bulb type units now popular with Audi etc., possibly located in the grille area. Has anyone ever fitted a set of these and if so could give a not very technical person some advice on what to buy? I apologise if this question has come up before. Thanks.

Better still, keep them turned off and stop dazzling the rest of us.

DRLs are stock with Fog Lights and with most roomster trims (at least in continental Europe). Very useful and mandatory in some EU countries. No fog in Northern Ireland? :giggle:

(I remember beautiful days up there while Erasmus student at Trinity College Dublin...no fog unfortunately, just ordinary Irish rain  )

Tried my local Skoda Dealership who were of no help, they say that the Fog Lights are factory fitted and only on the Scout. Ah well, at least I have wipers fitted...

Thanks for your post.

Hi there , front fogs are standard on the Scout , however you can order as a factory fitted item " front fogs " , the front fog unit has a spare bulb within the unit and when activated acts as day running lights , i feel sure these light units could be a retro fitted item by skoda dealerships . My Roomster is in SE trim and only 5 months old ( 2012 ) and had front fogs fitted as an extra . Good luck with your quest

As others wrote, it is possible to have them retro fitted, though be prepared to pay some more quids than having them as stock. In the dash, under the steering wheel and at its left, the fuse box should already have a switch (or the kind) for activating DRLs.

Thanks all. I'll be in touch with my local Skoda Garage tomorrow with the information on retro fitting.

Spoke to the Skoda Service Manager who has had several people interested in the fog/day light retro-fit, the most recent being early this week. Skoda's stand is that the lights are factory fitted options only and will not be available as accessories... Skoda, you have a market out there, listen to the people!!!

What i cannot understand is why these Fog/DRL are not available as a retro fitted item , surly all Roomsters wiring is the same so there should be wires available to retro fit ( what would happen if a Roomster that had front fogs /drl had a front end collision , would Skoda say sorry you cannot have your fog/drl because we only factory fit ( I would ring Skoda UK and complain )

same here, local Skoda garage won't retrofit fog lights to my car.

or much more usefully for deactivating them

If you are dazzled by DRL's during the day then how do you manage to drive at night with dipped headlights?

Find a better dealer, the front fog's/DRL's can be retrofitted - but at a prohibitive cost.

You'll need a new headlight switch, additional wiring behind the front bumper, the light clusters and some coding done to the car.

Please don't retrofit aftermarket strip LED's from Halfords, they look pretty bad and are obviously non-genuine.

If you don't need the fogs then don't bother with the headlight switch and just use one of the readily available 'DRL wiring kits' to utilise just the DRL section of the light clusters...

DRLs , that are factory fitted on a Roomster do not dazzle they give a good dull light which is very effective

I'm calling with my local dealer tomorrow to pick up a piece of kit I ordered yesterday. I'll take the opportunity to hunt down the service manager and have a face to face chat about the DRL's. The advice I've been given on this matter in the forum has been invaluable. Thanks one and all.

As to me, I would not have bothered about DRLs if not for the attached fogs option. I do not see fog very often, but when it is the (rare) case fogs are very useful. :sun:
