EGR help

Featured Replies

Hi all

Since having my ASZ furby VRS I managed pretty good MPG. I got my car mapped at unit18 where the EGR was deleted etc and was getting circa 76mps on a 60mph motorway run. My turbo went pop so decided to go hybrid with a PD150 turbo and bigger I/C. I also got it mapped again at a different place to 208bhp.

Heres my point. During swapping my turbo etc i snapped the small plastic arm on the EGR but asumed that as its been deleted it wont matter and 'sorted' it so it remained in the fully open position (bit like the alard pipe). But thinking back with the new map on a piggy back Ecu would the EGR still be deleted or will it be back working now?

If it is working again could this be the reason for a drop in MPGs??

The plastic arm runs the anti-shudder valve, not the EGR. So it'll be making no difference to the way your engine runs, just to the way it shuts down.

Having said that, the new mappers might have not mapped out the EGR function, so on your new map it could be opening the EGR valve as standard, it's worth getting it checked.

I wonder what is causing the drop in mpgs then.

Errrrrrmmmm...........

You're now running 208bhp, your new map will be fuelling more heavily to give you that output ;)

I did think this might be the case. Just i hear of so many peeps getting better mpg on a remap. I guess i have hit the point where this is not the case

There's getting a remap, and there's getting a PD150 and running 160% stock power ;)

Good point. Bit silly on my part. Thanks for being gentle ;)

I'm in the same boat as you

I never tire of getting home after a spirited drive, 38MPG on the clock and half my fuel tank plastered over the rear of the car B)

Oh and the soot all over the back of the car just adds character in my opinion
