Lack of power

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2001 Octavia 110TDi, which I bought from a dealer about a month ago. I am sure that since I collected the power, it feels as if it has much less performance than it used to. For instance when travelling at about 60mph in 5th gear (about 2000rpm), I apply more throttle, and then car is really slow to pick up speed.

Also when travelling up an incline, the car seems to need a lot more throttle to get it to maintain the existing speed.

It had its air filter changed just before I bought it (at 71k miles) and also had a new clutch.

Any ideas? Dodgy sensor maybe? I notice there is a scart like socket or something similar near to the steering wheel - is that a diagnostics socket? If so, anyone know where I can get a diagbox for it?

Cheers,

Matt

Have a little search for air mass meter or MAF, that will more than likely be the fault.

As for a diag box you need a VAG COM program and lead and a laptop with a serial port is ideal.

Have not got a haynes manual for this beast yet..... is the MAF easy to change and cheap?

I guess I need to buy the vag com program, or is there a free download of it (unlikely I guess....) how about a pinout for the serial cable?

Cheers,

Matt

You can get leads from ebay from around

I had a quick look around about vag-com, etc so now I am a bit more prepared!!

Arh.. I jsut saw that sensor, as I opened the airfilter box to check the dealer had put a new filter in!

As a side issue when I drove down to the forest to walk the dog this morning, the handbrake [symbol ----> (!) <---- symbol] light came on, and the car beeped at me 3 times. Brake fluid looked a little low, so I just topped it up a bit. The bad thing is the gf drove it last, and she has trashed my last 3 cars (the worst being parking my 405 estate in a ditch on its side).

Any ideas on the price of a MAF sensor? I need to pop into a skoda place to get some front shocks for the gf's felicia, so I could get that then....

Cheers,

Matt

New is circa

I got my MAF replaced a couple months ago it cost about

I think i may need the MAF replaced on mine. The power seems to drop at at any time and then come back on again anywhere between 1600 and 3500 revs (it seems)

If i where to draw a torque curve it would have two or three flat spots or dips.

Can the VAGCOM pick up a faulty MAF? I have heard that they are very hard to diagnose.
