Any DPF'less cars of any brand on the market now?

Featured Replies

As per thread title. Anyone know of anything from anyone in the diesel dept from any manufacturer?

Sick of hearing and reading about this 'enviromentally friendly' device nonsense on forums and in the press, and it's about time that ALL sales satff were thouroughly taught about the suitabilty for certain driving style customers too.

Went into one showroom last week to enquire about a certain car, and the sales person didn't even know what a DPF IS/WAS, let alone if the car I was aking about had one!! :o

I agree with you, the route cause of a lot of peoples problems may be that salesmen are interested in selling cars, maybe not so much as to whether or not the car specification is best suited to their needs. I can't recall the DPF being mentioned when I bought my car.

Shocking that some still don't know what one is...

I recently read of a dire case in the Honest John Q&A column recently, regarding a Skoda Fabia iirc, and the owner of this new car had nothing but problems with the DPF.

On his own admission, he drove slowly and only for short distances which was pretty obviously the main reason why the light kept coming on.

After several visits to the stealer to clear the system, they finally admitted that the car was obviously not suitable for his driving style and swapped it for a petrol version.

I'm sure someone said the low compression sky-active diesel in the Mazda cx5 did not have a dpf. Worth checking

I'll check on that, tar.

Wondering if I should go petrol to replace my van as I do quite a bit of stop start driving in my job.

Done a bit of checking and not convinced it is completely dpf-less yet

All brand new diesels will contain DPFs to meet to the Euro V emissions standards.

Much as expected really.

DPF removal is an option then, as done by some in here I believe.

Can't realistically be done during warranty though.

Get yourself one of the last 1.9 TDi PD105 DPF-less Octavia's!

Yes, one of the last non-DPF diesel cars you could buy in the UK.

Yep, as said it's now part of Euro 5.

I would only generally worry if the vast majority of your driving was stop-start and in urban environments.

And of course, you have the DPF-delete route too. Although I appreciate not everyone would want to go down this path.

It would be theoretically possible for a manufacturer to build a new DPF-less diesel even now if they could get the particulates low enough. Euro V only specifies maximum diesel particulate levels, not whether a DPF has to be fitted as such. In practice those limits are now so stringent that manufacturers choose the 'easy' option and just stick a DPF on the exhaust.
