Which one to get?

Featured Replies

Wifey has driven the vRS a few times and loves it. She doesn't need the full fat version, so started looking around for a Fabia II for her. Must be DSG, so started searching through the Skoda approved listings and there seems to be a choice of 3 engines - 1.2 TSI 105, 1.4 16V and a 1.6. Any pros/cons to each? Most of her driving would be town stuff with the occasional run out of town, so not worth getting a diesel, but still needs to be quick enough for dual carriageway/motorway work (she doesn't like slow cars).

I know the 1.2 is probably the best of the lot, it are either of the other 2 worth looking at? Was going to see what deal they could do on a new Monte (given the VAT free deal), but they've stopped doing those in DSG??

Don't think the Monte Carlo ever came with the DSG Box

I will stand corrected though.

I might have been dreaming it....

Off-topic, but I'm curious...are you also philhoward the Scimitar man?

On-topic,the 1.2 wins universal praise and the 105 version should be fast enough, available in S,SE,SEplus and Elegance with DSG,but not, sadly Monte Carlo.

I highly recommend the 105 TSi DSG. It's so nice to drive I keep borrowing the wife's. Good around town and plenty of poke when you need it.

The very same....

First choice would be a TSi 1.2, but given used prices, its not much more (with the offers) to go with a new one...!

That's the conclusion I came to with the vRS,so I've got a new one on order.

It's a small world...

1.2 tsi 105.

Even if the Monte had come with DSG I’d recommend the Elegance for the extra toys (maxidot, climatronic), having had both

Could always beef up the suspension later :)

Going through the configurator and based on her ladyships wish list vs the essentials, we're up at Elegance level....

Sports suspension is only £87.50 !!!

Yes the Elegance is a good spec, although I notice that the rear PDC sensors have been dropped to the options list since my wife bought hers in 2010.

One option we do wish she had gone for was the curve lights, not sure if they would make things better but even with nightbreaker bulbs the head lighting is dire; my lads 2009 Fabia 1 trim with the non DE headlights is actually better.
