What would others do?

Featured Replies

Okay, I had a new sunroof fitted last year under warranty cos of a strange metallic rattling noise, but a little while after there appeared a different noise (which I learned recently came from above the rear seats, the back of the sunroof unit). Anyway, it went in to the dealer's for them to check out and they couldn't get it to make the noise so I got it back and said i'd keep an eye on it. I gave it back to them last monday for an MOT and that as it had started to do it pretty much all the time, even got the service manager out in it who heard it as well before we went back to the garage.

A week on and they're saying they can't get it to make the noise again (which seems odd as it was pretty constant albeit on & off whilst driving and dependant on how smooth the road was). They've spoken to SUK technical who should be getting back to them today but they phoned on friday saying so and asking if I wanted it back or wanted to stay in the courtesy Yeti because of the lask of diagnosis.

Okay, might be me, but I noticed they worded it in calls that they've started calling it 'an issue in the roof' as opposed to the original 'sunroof problem', but what on earth is in centre of the roof apart from the sunroof, the head lining and the metal roof itself?!

So what would others on here do: leave it with them with the hope they find the problem (which has been recognised by the service manager), take it back and have to give it BACK to them again after 5 minutes and it's doing it again, speak to SUK, what?! Dealer is 20 miles away so it's a pain in the @rse to get it over there just for an issue which is pretty much always there and I can't understand why it's allegedly not displaying itself when they test it.

GAAAAAAHH!!

edit: also, they said they thought it might be temperature related, but it's done it in all temps for me, so not sure about that one. This week is definitely in contrast to last weeks sunshine though.

I would stay in their courtesy car, they will be more keen to finally resolve it if you are clocking up miles in their car .It could be temp related, my drivers side window squeals like hell ( when operating) but only above 18 degrees , so not often

It's not just the high level brake light cover? That's a known rattle spot. I've had a bit of tape on mine since new to stop it.

No, it's about halfway back, pretty much where the headlining dips back in to meet the roof again after the sunroof, ahead of the reading lights.

As I said, to be honest, I can't see what it can be other than the sunroof, as I can't think what else is in there to physically make the noise?!

Doesnt the aerial cable run along there?

It's not that sort of noise, but a possibility I guess.

It's sort of like a 'tacky' sound, as if the roof lining is touching something on & off. However, i've never known a roof lining to go UP with age! :)

Loose 'spacer' block? not sure what it's called but I had Clio with an electric sunroof. Twice some sort of spacer would come loose / disappear / turn into French dust and the roof lining would tap against the roof.

Happy, joy. They've gone out in it today and heard it again so they called and told me to keep the Yeti and they'll sort it out, so all good again.

Actually, quite like the Yeti to drive, it's just got a ridiculously small boot and there seems little need for such a high ceiling.
