My advice is get a proper remap from a reputable tuner. Those things are cheap because they are carp.

Some may be cheap and nasty, and unfortunately that means they're all perceived like that. I've enjoyed performance and MPG gains (measured by my own calculations and not the car's) using Tunits which are adjustable having several variables.

There are good and bad remaps too, although they're not as easily added or removed. Furthermore they do not have a portability value for resale or reuse.

The TDI-tuning box is their cheaper unit and not as sophisticated as the more expensive one they offer which is has a chip in it and is possibly programmable. The basic one may be little more than a resistor - who knows?

The Tiger one does at least appear to have a chip, some jumpers and a potentiometer to adjust with.

I'm no expert, but having tried both remaps and tuning boxes, there's a place for both depending on your car replacement cycle and budget. It's too easy to say a remap is the way to go, and I'm sure if you're into modding in the pursuit of performance then it is. But modest improvements can be found through boxes like Tunits nd other reputable ones
