Windows 7 Upgrade - Now NO Sound

Featured Replies

Can anyone offer any help with this problem?

I am by no means any expert with computers but I try and fix as many things myself as possible.

Just upgraded all the works computers to windows 7 and my computer now wont play sound.

The sound card is there, installed with up to date drivers and the sound is actually working but I have no sound.

Installed a new sound card and still the same thing happens.

Tried checking the motherboard (asus P5VD2-VM) and checking asus website for the latest drivers and from what I can determine there is no driver support for windows 7 for this motherboard.

Just in case it might work I tried downloading vista 64bit but that hasnt worked either.

Has anyone got any other ideas on how I can solve this problem.

I didnt reliase how much I use the sound on my computer and this is really becoming annoying. Ive spent hours on this already and it looks like I might need to upgrade the motherboard :wall:

Have you tried generic Intel drivers ?? http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect?iid=dc_iduu

Also, try deleting all references to the sound card from the system and remove the sound card, reboot, let the system do any updates, then stick the sound card back in and reboot again, THEN install the win7 drivers. Also; if there are no generic Intel drivers, try installing Vista or XP drivers.

In the bottom right-hand corner, there should be a speaker icon. Is there a cross through it, or a red circle?

speaker jack in the sound card socket or the mobo socket?

You haven't disabled it in bios by accident whilst fiddling ?

Although it wouldn't show as installed then

Check it's turned up in the system tray at bottom right corner. Also check it's on the right card in sound properties and set it to default. You could now have two

sound cards as you probably got onboard and a pci one

Speaker Icon there and as it should be. Play sound and go to the speaker icon and it shows its playing and you can adjust volume but no physical sound.

Checked the bios and no issues there.

Also checked the sound card option and thats correct.

Ive also disabled and enabled every possible combinaion but still no physical sound. The computer cant find any fault when touble shooting and thinks everything is working.

And yes I have turned the speakers on :giggle:

From a google search there are other people with the same issue but no one seems to have found a solution. I will keep trying till I get it sorted (or but a new computer/motherboard, lol)

Do the speakers work with something else?.

Good point and something I did (eventually) think of.

Yes they do work on another computer. I've also tried earphone on my computer.

click Start then right click on Computer, go to properties, in the left hand panel you should have Device Manager, click it. Check the list it brings up for anything with a yellow marker on it, it may be a driver conflict, or missing driver.

Failing that go to the computer manufacturers website and look for the support pages, there may be a download for the audio drivers on there, or even a bios update that will resolve the issue.
