Octavia MK1 Hatch - Opening The Boot After Rain & Getting Splashed?!

Featured Replies

Opened the boot on my 04 Mk1 Oct hatch after it was raining the other day and was welcomed with a splash from either side near the gas struts, is this common or is there a fix? Or could it just be down the sitting water? I didn't have anything valuable in the boot so luckily nothing got ruined but it looked to be splashing in well. PS - i've tried searching, but can anyone link me to the "gearbox oil change guide" for a mk1 Oct PD130 engine/box. Thanks in advance.

Apparently it's a feature. There were posts about it some time back and I recall that a strategically placed bead of clear silicon seal can make it much better.

Mine does it too... straight into the speakers lol

The gearbox change for the 6 speed box requires a 'special oil'. : http://www.ebay.co.u...=item43aac6c935

Cheers, Terry

:wonder:

Anyway, yes they seem to do this, but if you open slowly it can prevent it.

However, I'd be interested in the silicone fix. Any guides?

I think you put the silicone along the line at the bottom of the rear window where it meets the metal. I may be wrong though.

There is a post about this years ago, but that is basically the fix as quoted above.

When I did it I firstly:-

1/ Cleaned all dust / debris out of the gap with a soft paintbrush.

2/ Used a suitable de-greaser and a cloth to remove any wax/polish in the groove.

3/ Finally I chose to use a cartridge of "Tigerseal" (any silicone sealant will do), carefully working along L-R injecting it into the groove.

Then with a wet fingertip, smoothed the surface down, any extra that spread onto the glass or bodywork carefully removed with a cloth soaked in de-greaser, then left overnight to set.

You will still get a small amount of water running in because of the curve of the tailgate but nothing like before.

This is what it looks like:-

Yep...... Open boot and water tries to attack your speakers :(

Lots of rain ex and glass polish stuff ;)

The more anti stick your window the less rain stay on to come off lol

But i agree just slowly open it mate

Hehe or buy some jl audio marine speakers :D

Good stuff Silver bullet - pictures make it so much clearer. I've still not done this but I think I should!

I only open the boot when it's dry :giggle: but I'll always remember the first time I opened the boot after heavy rain :rain:

I just open it a bit and let the worst of it run off and then open it fully. Still get a bit inside but not as bad! Thought about a blob of silicone at either end to create a bit of a barrier.

there's another easy way...open the boot about 10 inches, leave it there 5 seconds, the water will fall out side, and then continue complete lifting

That's pretty much what I do every time. Works well.

Unless it's chucking it down, then your screwed, it's you or the boot floor/speakers lol

Silver Bullet is dead right with what he did.

I did the same and the bead of sealant helps a great deal. With that and using rain X regulary help water run off at a better angle.

Excellent, will have to copy you.

"Stuff" ????? (Think you mean the mod buddy :giggle: )

Keep a squeegee in the glovebox? :)

Since this has been bumped up I might as well add that I sealed up the gap the other week, and as someone said, it doesn't completely fix it, but it certainly makes a vast improvement over the flood that normally rushes into the boot.

Good job

Yes, stuff. Silver Bullet said some stuff, I didn't see the need in clogging up the page with what he said so cut it out of the quote. I left the quote in so that he knew I was thanking him.
