Superb Estate 2.0tfsi anyone got something to say about this engine good or bad?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

I'm probably going to sign on the dotted line this weekend to buy one of these and would like some honest opinions re the engine and fuel consumption from someone other than the Skoda own figures - can anyone help?

For what it's worth I have the 1.8TSI & the engine is very smooth & responsive with wide torque band.

Fuel consumption is averaging 32mpg with 50/50 town & country driving.

Fuel consumption can drop to high 20's if I do a lot of city driving and can be in around 40mpg on a steady motorway run.

I guess the 2.0tfsi is a bit quicker and a bit more thirsty!

i had 2lt petrol superb estate on test for a day mixed driving 28 mpg the engine sounded a bit tiny when pushed .bought a 170 diesel in the end same driving 38mpg. the diesel seems to have more grunt when pushed.but not as quite or smooth as the petrol

bill

Used to have a MK5 Golf with this engine. Great engine but yes a bit noisy. I have the 170 TDI in my Superb and it's quieter than my Golf was, which is impressive.

Not driven a Superb with the 2.0T but on paper it doesn't really look like a great option over the TDI 170 as the performance is so similar, unless of course you really MUST have a petrol (and they do have 20% off if buying new).

If I was buying petrol then the 1.8TSI would be my pick for a balance of economy/cost/performance.

I moved from a 2 litre tfsi to the 1.8 in the yeti (same as the Superb unit) and I say the 1.8 is a nicer unit. It seems smoother and more flexible and offers better economy by far. I'd take it over the diesels any day also. :-)
