Dump valves

Featured Replies

now then guys, a stupid question maybe, not too sure on the idea, but a mate of mine said he'd seen a fabia vrs mk 1 (same as my car) with dump valves on and sounded great, would that be a good idea getting them on or would it just look stupid?

HELP! cheers..

it would look alright, but it would sound stupid imo

You sure it wasnt just the owly sound he heard and mistook it for a dump valve?

what the twit or the twoo?

Completely pointless on these cars!

They have a VNT turbo so there is no excess boost to "dump".

As soon as it doesn't require boost anymore the actuator in the turbo is moved and there is no more boost produced.

And as they don't have a throttle body etc then even if they had a normal turbo it isn't as important to vent the excess pressure as there's no flap for it to puch against.

Do it if you want the noise though...

What Phil said..

Dump valves are totally pointless on VNT diesels :)

Pointless on any diesel let alone VNT.

Expensive normally to fit also as needs a solenoid to work and be wired up to throttle pedal.

lol it did sound a bit pointless, appriciate the comments though! i havnt really heard of dump valves being out on any diesel to be honest?? nice one, cheers lads!

i had one on a 306 diesel i had in the past, they sound stupid because for the valve to open you have to have it on a switch from the throttle pedal, because diesels do not produce vaccum to open the valve (i think?) which means the valve stays open for the entire time your foot is not on the pedal and sounds really odd!

Tvvat siren. Not a good move.

Tvvat siren. Not a good move.

Haha. Exactly!

There's a few round me that have stupidly loud ones but none on diesels.

There is obviously a need for them on certain engines etc but you have to be a bit of a tvvat to go for a stoopid loud one.

lol the old tvvat siren good times!

Even proper ones sound stupid after a while. I had one on an Elise I bought (believe it or not!) & it was just ridiculous.

I had them on two Saabs, but am now older and have a bit more common sense.
