Reccomend me an simple USB head unit please.

Featured Replies

One thing im realy missing from my old car is the facility to drag and drop 10 gig of music files onto a USB memory stick and play them through the stereo. So much eaiser than fannying around with CD's. Also, my standard Symphony head unit is a bit fussy about playing CD's than I have burnt and gets quite skippy.

So im looking for a simple 'plug and play' replacement unit. This is what im looking for -

Under or around £100

Must play directly off a USB stick

Not cheap/nasty unbranded crap

Single DIN

Easy to fit (are most just a case of swapping the connectors around at the back?)

Preferably with a concealed cavity for the USB stick (I think wires and sticks poking out the dash looks ugly) but this isnt essiential.

If it plays off a USB stick, im not even fussed about it being able to play CD's.

Not to fussed on power output etc as I'll probably just keep the standard speakers.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

Yes, but I cant stand buggaring around with itunes.

Im an old fashioned kind of guy that prefers MP3's off a memory stick lol!

No worries. The reason I ask is because I've got this head unit http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_808753_langId_-1_categoryId_165474

This may fit into your requirements mate http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_902133_langId_-1_categoryId_165474 £69.99. You'll most likely need the ISO connectors to fit the stereo into your car. They're usually about £20.

Hope this info helps

I really like the first one. (Sony DSX-S100) Like the way the hardware is concealed inside and it says it'll play from a USB flash drive which is what I want.

What bits do you need to put it in the fab?

Halfords are saying you need a harness adaptor (£5), facia adaptor (£10) and a antenna adaptor signal seperator (£10). Seems like a lot of extras?

THIS is the one I have fitted in my fabia. SD card, 3.5mm(ipod) port on the front, or USB port on the rear. (good for hiding the USB stick out of sight in glovebox etc)

Great sound. not overcrowded with knobs and switches. you can colour match the illumination to the green of your dash B)

******EDIT***** - it's now discontinued :(

There is another option, although fascia is not removable

Or another option, whose fascia is removable

That's correct, they're exactly what I purchased. If you don't buy these parts, you'll see why. The stereo just doesn't connect up. The Antenna adaptor probably isn't needed, as I think there's one in the Sony box (could be wrong!)

Hopefully this kit should fit into your requirements.

I've had this head unit for 18 months now and is perfect for my iPhone. No messing at all. Just plug and play into the concealed area.

Cheers

Cheers guys, some good choices there.

Aldi has one in for £50 I noticed last week

You'll get a facia adapter cheaper from a main dealer and it will be a better match.
